The poor man has lost it, if indeed he ever had it. To the best of his recollection, he remembers no conversations with any Russians with whom he came into contact. Evidently, he had no recollection there were going to be any Russians at the meetings he attended.
It was all a surprise to him, and he deeply resented any information to the contrary.
I kept wanting someone, anyone, to challenge his reasons for not answering any question having to do with his conversations with his president. I wanted Diane Feinstein, for example, to ask what would happen if he did answer such a question. Would his president send him to a funny farm for life? Would he be exiled to the land of lost recollections? Would he be required to have plastic surgery on his ears? Would he have to write a hundred times, "Being in my president's employ is the best thing that ever happened to me. I love him beyond all others. I will always say nice things about him, no matter the cost to my career, my marriage, (shudder) or my left eye which has begun to twitch uncontrollably during the past 10 hours or so."
Don't you just love these hearings? You get to be in an alternative world for the duration.
