Trial balloon for a coup?

His analysis could overlay almost perfectly so far onto the events of 1933 Germany.

"Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one's lifetime." - Mark Twain "Innocents Abroad"

Robert Reich: The Dangerous Rise of Steve Bannon

“The media should be embarrassed and humiliated and keep its mouth shut and just listen for a while,” - Steve Bannon, 2017-01-26

================================================
THE FIVE STEPS

Step one for Hitler was to discredit the media. (Happening now.)

Step two was to silence scientists and government employees. (Happening now.)

Step three: hate crimes against minorities grow to the highest in their countries history. (Already several instances with perpetrators praising Trump, but too soon to claim this one is truly in action.) Hitler ended civil liberties (Step 3 - martial law), giving “law and order” as the cause. Those who opposed Hitler were ridiculed and threatened.

Step four: wealthy supporters purchased media outlets, employing only those faithful to the ruling party. (See Fox News and it's recent “losses”, starting with George Will.)

Step five: Hitler declared the only way the country could be unified was to restore traditional values. Minorities, including gays, the disabled, non-Christians and people of color were considered “inferior” and sent to death camps.

We are on Step 2.

Good post, Sir Hawk.

Another similarity is how Hitler convinced the German people that only he understood their problems and that only he had the answers. The citizens were angry at their plight of being in a poor financial state and were desperate for solutions, so he seized the opportunity to begin his reign of dictator.

Frightening is almost an understatement.
