TRANSFER PORTAL RULES CFB
In re: D1 scholarship limits
Thanks to past problems starting with Charlie Weis (HEY! You kiss your mama with that mouth?!?!?!?), KU has been fighting to get back to the annual roster limit of 85 scholarship players for years.
A major stumbling block to that is the 25 *new* scholarships annual limit.
So, here’s the deal!
The current Transfer Portal rules gives KU a window to climb back to 85 faster, and HCLL wants to maximize all he can toward hitting the 85 scholarship limit before the next round of NCAA rules changes regarding how to use the transfer portal.
The recruiting staff found a loophole, a major loophole that Leipold & Co have worked with their graduating players who still have eligibility left (e.g., Miles Fallin, Miles Kendrick and Nick Williams). HCLL struck a handshake agreement with those players to enter the portal on or after DEC 15.
Why?
We get credit for guys that leave our team and enter the portal from DEC 15 on. We can replace up to 7 portal losses with 7 portal adds, 1 add per loss, regardless of annual new scholarship limits.
Even though they don't actually transfer, we get to add another portal player to our roster.
HCLL gets more flexibility with the roster for this upcoming offseason and most likely the players got something good in return.
Checking with sources, the word hitting JayhawkSlant is that not many other programs have realized this is possible.
Smooth.
