Well I thought we had found a key with the first half of the ISU game. And that key was defensive intensity.
Evidently not so.
Harris picking up the third foul combined with the intensity of the KSU players and fans spelled doom for KU.
Hunter once again showed mediocrity when confronted by good big men. He was slow and often lost on D.
I give KSU credit, they shot lights out, They were quick, determined, concise with their play, and better.
This team needs to make games a rock fight, but they don’t have the physical skills to do so. It seems we can do it in stretches, but not sustained.
I think we are missing something intangible. There used to be pride in playing for KU. A want to carry the traditions on. A desire to sustain the KU dominance. I think with NIL and the portal transfer carousel this is no longer the case. There is no pride, no intensity, and no desire.
They have talent. They are good kids. But I don’t really see any connection to KU beyond the job,
We are soft. We are slow. At times we can play at a high level at times, but it doesn’t appear to be anything they can readily replicate on any consistent basis.

Well said. "slow" is in many ways the key to my way of thinking. This team is not very athletic. When they don't play hard, the results are not pretty. So an obvious question is, why don't they play hard? KJ said they came out a little lackadaisical yesterday. Why in the world did they do that? As you wrote above, pride and desire used to matter at KU. Self has quite the rebuilding job ahead of him next year (and yes, anyone who thinks this team can magically make a tournament run this year simply hasn't been paying attention), and it would be nice if he can come up with a team that cares.

The most concerning aspect of this year is this team’s regression. Coach Self is known for developing teams and yet this team just flat out stinks. They beat MSU, Duke and look at those teams. Izzo is a hall of famer but Self is just as good, and Duke’s young talent has matured. KU, DeJuan makes boneheaded plays to pick up silly fouls, Hunter is what he is and every team will attack him. Zeke had several mental lapses yesterday, no one takes open shots..something is totally amiss.

Agreed 100%.
I know it's not his persona, i.e. Devonte, Frank, Devon, Tyshawn, etc., but his passivity, disinterest, etc. I think has an affect on the others. He's very talented, but needs to take over situations more and more. Mayo too, when he juked and drove last night with nice dime to KJ it reinforced my belief this team is too pass around focused vs balance with drive/dishes.
