to watch. Loved the energy, the ball movement and defense. But...gotta be honest. UCF was terrible, really terrible. And when there is no one to challenge Hunter, yeah, he is pretty good. Play of the game was Flory's block, dribble, and dunk. Let's see how they do in the next few games against teams that presumably can put up a fight.

My thoughts exactly. Glad Hunter got his 27, but UCF's starting post guy was on the bench early with foul trouble, and they didn't have an answer for KU's size in the paint. Also glad so many guys got to play. I still love KJ, but something is off with him this year. Flory Bidunga is amazing. Obvously he had a great game, but he's a very quick defender for a guy that size, and brings SO much energy and enthusiasm.
Anyway, nice win, but it's going to take a few games for me to believe that we're really a top 10 team. On paper we SHOULD be based on the accumulated resumes of the players, but you could say the same thing about the USA Olympic "Dream Team" in 2004 which was bascially an NBA all star team, but who only managed a bronze medal.
If we go 5-0 over the 3 weeks, then maybe I'll have a new attitude. That would include wins vs AU, @Cinci, @ISU, vs KSU and @TCU. We shouldn't ever lose a game in AFH, but if we can win the next 3 road games (including ISU which is always a tough trip), that would be a sign that things have actually changed.

I wanted them to hit 100 just because, at least as long as they were still dealing with having to take a shot. Once they got the final possession I knew it wasn't going to happen (and I wouldn't want them to try at that point, not cool), but I would have liked to see the bench guys break 3 digits just to have something to talk about ("we kept the production going, didn't just run around and run out the clock")
Have to agree with the main sentiments of this thread.
I was surprised how off UCF was given their 10-2 record and their road win over Texas Tech to start conference play.
Some credit has to go to KU D and getting HD's man (FR C Thiam) in foul trouble early, but I think last year's UCF win in Orlando - coming back from down 16 to win - and the WVU win in AFH might have been a bit of a mind game for UCF? Especially as Dawkins has a completely new team this season. What was the stat they showed during the game? 11 new players, including 9 transfers and 2 freshmen? And 3 of them starters (one Fr their big Thiam) make it a totally different team this season,
The big question is was this simply a bad biorhythms game for UCF and an excellent one for KU?
Or did we see the beginning of the gelling we have all been wondering about as Shakeel Moore cracked the starting lineup and no Jayhawk got near 30 minutes PT with 6 players racking up 20+ minutes and 3 more having at least 15. And almost everyone of those 9 players produced on the scoring end, while those who did not do as we had hoped offensively (Mayo and Coit for this game) produced on the defensive end.
I'm really hoping this was the start of something good, really good, Bill Self's Jayhawks GOOD!
Time and success over teams with strong big men to stop HD will tell.

I do not think UCF is significantly worse than WVU. The difference in KU's energy level in those two games was huge. They were a completely different team against each opponent. Part of it is match-ups but I think the biggest thing was playing with urgency and extreme effort.
