I note that the conference season opener hosting WVU finally has a time,1:00 PM CT on New Year's Eve day, to go with the channel -- and the channel is ESPN+.
The time is a recent decision.
I don't get the channel, even given the history
Yeah, WVU wasn't great guns last season, but they always play KU pretty tough, even though they have yet to win in AFH (and yeah, I'm sure CFB bowl games factor in as well, but - see the end of this post...).
But WVU is 6-2 so far this season, including wins over Gonzaga (7-2, the other loss to UK), Arizona (4-4, the other 3 losses against Duke, Wisconsin and OU) and Georgetown (7-2, the other loss to Notre Dame).
And KU has won 33 straight conference openers (14 in AFH, 19 on the road, last loss at Oklahoma, 88-82 on 1991/01/08; streak began with a huge 92-80 win at the Hearnes Center in the Hellmouth on 1992/01/13).
Being on New Year's Eve day, I would think an ESPN scheduling exec might just look at everything so far this season - especially if WVU wins it's next 3 and KU does not look so good in its next two (NC State and Brown, both in AFH, both on ESPN).- and reconsider moving this game to another ESPN channel. A chance to show KU humiliated on conference opening day for the first time since 1991? By a team that is looking for its first ever win in AFH? (KU is 11-0 versus WVU in AFH!)
Is that not a marketing pitcher's dream pitch?
"See the once mighty Kansas Jayhawks men's basketball team fall to the underdog yet again!
And on readily available NATIONAL TELEVISION on ESPN2!
To a team that has failed in 11 previous tries in fabled Allen Fieldhouse!"
Yeah, I'm not sold on the transfers, but mostly because we aren't seeing anything to buy.
I *want* to be sold on them.
I *was* sold on them until they showed otherwise... and sadly they have.
And Hunter is still soft, maybe even softer, which I just don't get?
This is his last go around.
This is his last chance to put a stake in the ground and show NBA scouts that he can contribute at that level.
I still want them to win, and back them all the way, but this team is not a team... at least not yet.
How can any Kansas Jayhawk men's basketball team go to Missouri and (in the words of HCBS) not be ready?
Coach can put the blame on the staff for the prep deficiencies, but we know the history of this staff.
The reality is that sometimes the mules just are not good enough for the heavy load they are being asked to carry.
Prove me wrong, JAYHAWKS!
ROCK CHALK!.
