Why did KU go to SLC instead of Omaha?

I always thought that the top 4 seeds in east region were rewarded with sub-regional locations close to home. Instead of Omaha, KU got Salt Lake City (if I were able to go, SLC is actually the closest sub-regional to my home so I'm not personally upset). I thought maybe Omaha was already full of higher seeded teams, but the Omaha home teams are Iowa State (#2), Illinois (#3), BYU (#6), and
Washington State (#7), all East Region games. Shouldn't KU have gone to Omaha with another pair of Midwest Region teams? Am I missing something?

My guess is the committee did not want to give BYU the home court advantage of playing in SLC

I heard a comment that BYU was moved to a #6 to schedule and thus a site that avoided them playing on a Sunday on either the first or second weekend.

It'll feel better when it stops hurting
Maybe because Iowa State is a #2 seed and rightfully belongs there ahead of us?

But they are in a different region. I don’t see why we can’t both be there…rules say top-4 seed teams in the same conference can’t play in the same region, not the same subregions.
