As expected, UCF beat the Pokes. They were close in H1 (UCF led 35-31 at the half), but the Knights pulled away in H2 (opened the second half on 18-1 run) and eventually won by 15, 77-62. A sad year for a proud program.

I don't think anyone outside of the state of West Virginia gave WVU a chance against the Bearcats. Yet they led at the half and had a 16 point lead with 12:26 to go. Then a series of technical fouls (3 in all!) enabled the Bearcats to struggle back, tying the game at 74 with 5:33 to go and and eventually take the lead for good with 1:26 to go to win 90-85.

Personally, I am glad to see Cincinnati come back to defeat WVU.

Why, you ask?

Because the closest WVU has ever come to beating KU outside of Morgantown was their OT loss on February 13, 2017 in "The PHOG". I'd really hate to see the Mountaineers win one against KU out of state when the Hawks are temporarily decimated.

Hopefully our shorthanded Hawks can win one from the Bearcats tomorrow!

BYU lead all the way, building a big early lead
Closest UCF got was 3 (56-59) with 13:41 to go, but BYU pulled away after that.

So far every game has gone to the better seed.
Hoping to see that continue this evening!

Well, that didn't last long.

Helps when the refs hand you the game at the end (when you are up just 2) with a BS flagrant foul on an inbounds that gives you 2 FTs and the ball afterward. Essentially a 4 point KSU play.

Next up Game 6, KU v CIN.

Good luck, JAYHAWKS!

Rest up, fellas.

One last chance to make some more positive noise this AY.

Fingers crossed our guys can get healthy and compete in the NCAAT.

This is the first year in a long time that I purposely did not watch a KU MBB game. It went about as expected, but this team is nothing to write home about even w/ Hunter or Kevin.

Thursday is done and on to the semifinals Friday.

The B12T has been chalk except for the Kansas schools in their first games.

1 HOU v 4 TT
2 ISU v 3 BU

I’m rather hoping Tech pulls it out and wins it all to break the chalk again.

I pulling for the meteor, don’t particularly care for any of these teams. ISU, Tech fans are just whiny. BU - Scott Drew, and we’ll Houston, just don’t like Sampson’s style of coaching .

Just under 14 to go and Houston is handling Tech.

Honestly, the one game I’m really hoping for?
Also just under 14 to go and my Ags are leading the squid kids by 7!
Hoping they can hang on for The Dub!

1 meets 2 on Saturday.

As it should be.

Personally, I’d like to see ISU win.

I should probably stop communicating by preferences - or at the very least who I want to lose - for this tournament. Jinx City.

ISU humiliated Houston.
Ouch.

At least KU had a reason.

By the way, konza63 pointed this out to me…

Also, this is a rule I didn't know about, but it's from the NCAA's website about seeding (from 2023):

Each of the first four teams selected from a conference shall be placed in
different regions if they are seeded on the first four lines.

Teams from the same conference shall not meet prior to the regional final if
they played each other three ormore times during the regular season and
conference tournament.

Teams from the same conference shall not meet prior to the regional semifinals
if they played each other twice during the regular season and conference
tournament.
If true, and Houston/ISU/Baylor/Kansas are all top 4 seeds, they can't be in the same regions.

Hard to believe the NCAA has such a sensible policy.

And a potential break for all 4 Big 12 teams, as they would get to avoid the teams that know them best until deep in the tournament.

That explains why KU is going to SLC instead of Omaha.

Disregard...sub-regionals are not tied to the regional (duh...). There will be a followup post to this
