Something to give us a little more patience with Elmarko’s progress.

Before 2020 his sport was lacrosse.
He has only been seriously playing basketball since 2020.

From a March 2023 pro insight interview www.prospectiveinsight.com/post/elmarko-jackson

PI: Can you walk us through your basketball journey? How did you get to where you are today?

EJ: So I started playing basketball in like fifth grade, just for fun, I was just like playing around. I was mainly a lacrosse player, that was my first sport. So I took that serious pretty much up until sophomore year, lacrosse that is. When COVID hit, I started taking basketball more serious.

That indicates he’s been on a really steep learning curve these past 3 years and stepping up to D1 ball — and out of need being thrown in the deep end in a position he has never played before (2G vs PG) — is going to take him a while to get his act together.

Hope he figures things out this season!

Pulling for the kid.

If he stays patient and focuses on a multi-year growth curve, he’ll flourish with Self. If, alternatively, he grows impatient and envious of those developing quicker than him right now, he may get frustrated and falsely conclude that the grass is greener somewhere else.

“With kindest regards to Dr. Forrest C. Allen, the father of basketball coaching, from the father of the game.”
