I thought this was reasonable/fair analysis about KU after Maui (ESPN)

Kansas' ceiling will be determined by its perimeter newcomers

Kansas has four established playmakers: Hunter Dickinson, K.J. Adams Jr., Kevin McCullar Jr. and Dajuan Harris Jr. The assumption in the preseason was that one of the freshmen or transfers would step up as a consistent ancillary player on the wing and make the Jayhawks one of the most balanced units in the country. That hasn't quite happened yet. The lack of shot creators and makers in the backcourt was noticeable in the loss to Marquette (and in the win over Kentucky in the Champions Classic, though Harris bailed them out in that one). Touted freshmen Elmarko Jackson and Johnny Furphy aren't quite there yet, and Towson transfer Nick Timberlake isn't making shots right now. Something worth monitoring: Freshman Jamari McDowell played 27 minutes against Tennessee. He was perhaps the least-touted of the incoming players, but he hit a pair of 3s against the Vols to help in the win, and brings length on the wing. -- Borzello

Can’t help it, I just like seeing “Jamari”s in crimson & blue. From what we’ve seen so far he is going to be an integral part of this team all year long.

My opinion - Johnny and Elmarko are going to live up to their billing. The speed and the strength of the “fish in the big pond” has them off balance right now, but they have the natural talent to be difference makers once they’ve adjusted to this next level of competition. They and Jamari — and Parker backing up HD @5 — are going to see lots of PT going forward.

I’m of the opinion that Nick can’t adapt to this next level. He’s getting better on D, but he was brought in to shoot, and he hasn’t found his shot yet, despite his excellent history at Towson. If things don’t change I would not be surprised to see Jankovich in before Nick. And I’ll close by saying I would love for Nick to figure things out and prove me wrong’

The basket isn't any smaller nor the line any further out, and Self doesn't cater to 3-pt shots that aren't open (so no blaming higher level defenses), so one has to wonder why Nick's shot isn't falling.

I wonder if playing defense the "Self" way is affecting his shot by tiring him out and impacting his launch.
