"Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one's lifetime." - Mark Twain "Innocents Abroad"

Bloody genius.
Angry as all get out, but a genius.

Sorry to hear, contributed a lot, even if he wasn't our favorite at times.

"When I was a freshman, I remember Coach Naismith telling us how important it was to play good defense." - Mitch Lightfoot
Definitely a mixed bag of a legacy. Granted, when he was in his prime, the expectations of how you could treat your players was waaaaay different than it is today. Not making excuses for him, but trying to apply appropriate perspective.
Certainly a legend of the game and his "family tree" of players is impressive.
I think what I'll miss most about him was when he got into announcing where he had a few years where he was REALLY good. He pulled no punches and dished out criticism fairly to all. Most of all, though, it really showed what a great teacher he was. His ability to break down plays and explain what was going on was amazing and I learned a whole lot watching game when he called them.
RIP General.

It'll feel better when it stops hurting
I am with you, NotO, I learned a LOT from listening to him call our games. It even made it easier to put up with Brent Musberger...lol. It really was a clinic to listen to him.

Full disclosure: I haven't read it yet. But it's in my queue.
Bonefishing Off Bimini With Bobby Knight
In 2015, I spent an intense, hilarious, and occasionally challenging week in the Bahamas with the legendary Hoosiers basketball coach, who more than lived up to his reputation.
