This is absolutely true and until #NotreDame does something one way or another, the #B1G won't move and when they do it'll likely be #ACC teams.

So, come July 2024 — will the Big 12 have:

13 members (OUt gone & CU back) or
14 members (UA joins CU in Big “12”)
or
16 - two more programs (UO? UW? Stanford? Utah? ASU?) join CU & UA in the Big 12

I do not see UConn (not a P5 program) being added, despite Commissioner Brett Yormark’s liking of them.

Remember — numerous reports are that Big 12 media partners ESPN and Fox have agreed with the Big 12 that any P5 program that opts to move to the Big 12 will actually increase the conference media contract by the average current value of each member up to and including getting to 16 members. This is a huge get that Yormark negotiated with ESPN and Fox. Unlike current B1G or SEC members who would see their current shares decrease by adding new members (exception would be Notre Dame, whose added worth is gauged to be comparable to the current average B1G media contract share), no current Big 12 member will see its share of the current contract decrease due to adding new members from a P5 conference.

While Football drives realignment bus the reality is with Big 12 bringing on another top basketball brand to its already #1 BB conference in the country it ensures Big 12 will never be left behind by SEC & Big Ten. Reforming BB Tourny can’t be done without Yormark and Big 12.

Hmmm…

I get a lot of info from JayhawkSlant, but there are certain posters that are considered top notch and SMEs when it comes to realignment, media contracts and conference financial analyses if truth be told. My top two are a fellow handled “cwobrien11” and another “five words”. They are pretty much the “EF Huttons” of the Slant when it comes to this stuff (you know the old ads, “When EF Hutton talks, people listen”).

ANYWAY,

Today five words noted “Fluguar has been NAILS from the get go” regarding the writer of that last text.

UTAH reported to be announcing move to Big 12 on Friday

Arizona Board of Regents meeting Thursday evening has
ARIZONA moving to Big 12 and
ARIZONZA STATE reluctantly joining them.

Talk is that Big 12 Commissioner Brett Yormark wants to announce all 3 (completing the “4 Corners” schools with Colorado) once all are officially ready to jump.

Big 12 had meeting Thursday reportedly okaying AZ joining, but likely giving BY the green light on welcoming Utah & ASU.

ALL 4 teams would join next July as full members, bringing the conference to 16 members after th3 departures of OUt.

ESPN and Fox media partners are good to go with expansion to 16, increasing the new media contract by $31.7M per Power 5 program leaving its former home for the Big 12 ($126.8M total increase)

It’s looking as if Oregon and Washington May end up in the B1G, at reduced shares that would still be more than the $31.7M each would get joining the Big 12.

No plans at present for Stanford, Cal, Oregon State or Washington State.
Possibly a merger with Mountain West?
Stanford go independent?

I will say that one thing I like about adding the 4 Corners schools (assuming it comes to pass) is it reinforces the orig8nal conference focus on state flagship or #2 universities as members. And I do believe all are AAU members.
