I was a bit disappointed that they did not mention the Jayhawks 2013-2014 season. I think a healthy Embiid makes a huge difference on that team.

“The difference between stupidity and genius is that genius has its limits”. Albert Einstein
While watching that game, I felt Self made a substitution error. While Landen Lucas was not up to the standard of the Stanford bigs, in the game, he was somewhat neutralizing them defensively while not being an offensive presence. I remember, Self went small and the game turned against us. I think Self did not have faith in Landen at this point in his KU career. While Self knows a lot more about BB than I do, it was one of those moments when I said to myself, "you don't need points, you need to tie up the Stanford bigs with a big that holds his ground." This is one of the very few times, I felt that Self misjudged a player's importance at the time in a particular game. Am I misremembering?

Don't worry about the mules, just load the wagon!!
The game that stands out to me for bad substitutions was the home game against Texas A&M in 2007. With KU up by 6 and just over 1 minute to go, Self pulled Darnell Jackson and RussRobb replaced by Sherron Collins and Sasha Kanu. Sherron had been having a very good game offensively but IMHO his defense was mediocre at best especially compared to RussRobb. Acie Law had a good game but almost all of this points were scored when Sherron was in the game. We had a 6 point lead with barely over a minute to go at home for goodness sake. At that point with Sasha and Darnell, Sasha was the better offensive player but Darnell had shown he was nails at crunch time on defense. After inserting Sheron KU turns the ball over on a post fed pass from Sherron to Sasha. It was designed play that A&M defended well. Plus, Sherron was not nearly as good of a ball protector at that stage as RussRobb. Then at some point thereafter Acie drains a corner 3 with Sherron defending him. IMHO he never would have got the shot with RussRobb in the game. We ended up losing the game by three, the first loss ever to Texas A&M and breaking a long home winning streak. I though Self really botched that substitution. Between Sheron and Sasha I think they had 3 TO’s down the stretch.
