Chris Johnson asks out of NLI 2023-06-03

HE, You just thought that you could take the summer off.

This got me thinking. At first I was annoyed, now that we don’t know who is on the roster even after they’ve signed. I thought about how weak minded this kid must be, not to want to fight for time. I wanted to suggest he look at Braun and Ochai, both of whom showed up with lower expectations than him, and they turned out OK.

Then I thought about Self and KU. After signing this kid, and asking him to commit to KU, they then went out and signed two or three portal transfers over him, all of whom will likely make him either redshirt or get very little playing time. It’s the way things are now, but then I wondered how disappointed this kid must be, and how little he must feel he fits into next year’s plans, and really, how little Self thinks of his ability to get any playing time. If I was him or his dad, I’d be bummed out, and a little disappointed. Regardless of whether he would improve under Self’s guidance, he will improve under a host of other coaches’ guidance, and will find some place where the coach didn’t go out and recruit over you with 4 or 5 players.

Best of luck to him. I’m not going to question ANY future decision by a player without first looking at how he was handled by the coach and sports program.
