580/20 = 29.0 average wins per season (AWPS)
That is the incredible statistic associated with Bill Self's KANSAS career.
29.0 AWPS over 20 seasons at KANSAS.
And I want to note that when I posted earlier (post since deleted) about Bill’s incredible AWPS, I inexplicably used Phog’s 590 wins instead of Bill’s 580 wins to come up with a totally erroneous number, analysis and projection.
Bill cannot possibly get to 30.0 AWPS in one season at this stage of his career.
21 seasons * 30 wins = 630 wins
630-580 = 50 wins needed.
Can’t happen in one season.
22 seasons * 30 wins = 660 wins
660-580=80 wins needed.
It would only take TWO perfect seasons in a row.
Ain’t gonna happen.
Maybe he can achieve 30.0 AWPS at KANSAS by the end of his career?
900 wins = 30 AWPS for 30 KANSAS seasons (assuming he retires in 10 years at 70)
900-580 = 320
He would need to average 32 wins a season for 10 seasons to get there.
Odds are against that.
I would note this: after AY2022-23 --
24.0: Bill’s AWPS his first 3 seasons at KANSAS with a mixture of Roy’s guys and his guys
29.9: Bill’s AWPS the last 17 seasons, all his guys
And if it had not been for the COVID-19 shortened AY2019-20 season with a dominant Dot & Dok led team that ended on a 16 game winning streak at 28-3 when the NCAA closed up shop? If KANSAS had earned the Big 12 T and NCAA Tournament titles we all believe they would have to finish 37-3 for the second time in KANSAS history?
29.5 AWPS his entire KANSAS career (and one win short of Phog at 589 after AY2022-23)
30.4 AWPS for his last 17 seasons.
Ah, well...
