Eric, IMHO, this article is purposeful and intended for public consumption. Cal is a master manipulator. Here is the real logic.
1. Cal desperately wants to win
2. In today’s world NIL is critical to winning and not embracing it would require stupidity.
3. Calipari is not stupid.
4. Calipari embraces NIL.

Sounds like a guy who got outbid. Or maybe a guy who has found himself on shaky ground with his long-term contract. In any case, as much as I hate NIL and the transfer portal, you can't tell me that a guy who has been paying players his whole career is suddenly trying to take some kind of moral high ground on the subject.
