WOW!!! It is crazy how this whole landscape has changed so quickly! As has been posted previously by others on this board, the NCAA needs to put some parameters on this ... or is it too late for that?

I always felt that the NIL environment was going to resemble a free agency type environment where recruitment would turn into a bidding war between schools particularly large/rich schools vs. smaller/limited financial resource schools. It started with the tradition rich football schools. I had been suspecting the that same may come down between KU and UK when it came to Hunter Dickenson. No longer any loyalty to the schools you play for.

Like everything in life pretty much, NIL is not as bad as the detractors bemoan and not as good as the backers aver. There are pluses and minuses. I would love to see some pundit write a well thought out and comprehensive article of the pluses and minuses of NIL. Here is my not well thought out, more seat of the pants off the cuff list.

Plusses
1. More players may choose to,stay in school longer since they can make money
2. Greater parity (I actually have the data showing there has been greater parity over the last couple years. I can only speculate by coincidental correlation that NIL is the cause or part of the cause but the parity is demonstrably increased.

Minuses
1. Could disrupt team harmony (petty jealousy, etc)
2. Severe discontinuity from year to year by players chasing better NIL deals in the portal
3. Coaches will potentially retire (old school) and coaches more versed in NIL will ascend to the top of the profession
4. Changing of the guard (some may see this as a plus) where the value of tradition diminishes and the value of deep pockets rules the game.
5. Corruption (but many would probably say that the corruption is already there it just changes to the new circumstances)
6. The ad nauseum articles and focus on the NIL and the impact it is having (kind of like my post here).

So far, I have not noticed a decided personal diminution of interest in college basketball. But if KU slides on an annual basis as a result of all this I can see that happening.

Don't worry about the mules, just load the wagon!!
