Multiple reports are that Zach Clemence wants to stay a Jayhawk.

Just a news flash so far, I’m searching for more info on this unfolding storyline…

As of this posting there is no further info on what’s happening with ZC possibly returning to KU. As noted, apparently he wants to return to KU. He has transferred to UC-Santa Barbara and started class, so you would think he’d have to do another transfer to return.

However, it turns out that NCAA transfer rules currently contain what amounts to a “buyer’s remorse” type of clause. I have been told that a student-athlete may return to his/her original school and play immediately if (1) the student transfers to another school, but (2) returns to his or her original school without either practicing or competing in athletics at all at the new school (an exception is allowed for one 14-day period that amounts to a tryout at the new school). Athletes may return to their original school and resume practicing and playing immediately even if they were required to sit out for one year as part of their original transfer.

Based on that, since he hasn’t played and assuming there have been no formal practices (they aren’t allowed yet, correct?), it seems ZC is good to go to return as far as the NCAA is concerned. So — it seems he could return and redshirt next year, but be able to burn his redshirt and play if needed.

So now the question is — does Self want him back?

Hmmm…

And the answer to the question is apparently "yes". Self states that Zach -- who never went to UCSB this summer -- in essence never transferred. Still on the roster, but will redshirt for AY2023-24.
RCB: Zach is back on campus and “hopefully practicing today…”
