All who were going to return have returned, all who were going pro have said their farewells, and we wish them all good luck!
KANSAS has entered the offseason with 247Sports #1 Transfer Portal Team Ranking for its 4 transfers, who join what was the overall #7 ranked 2023 Recruiting Class of Elmarko Jackson, Marcus Adams Jr and Jamari McDowell before Chris Johnson asked for and was granted release from his NLI (2023-06-03.)
Self had previously said he was content to not fill scholarship #12 unless a "game changer" became available. With the retreat of Chris Johnson giving KU just 10 scholarship players, Self has said they are actively searching for one more player of substance to fill #11, but that the possibilities are much fewer this late in the postseason. Should one or both rides remain unfilled it is expected that the Jayhawks will use them as additional "payments" toward the KU-imposed 3 scholarships over 3 seasons (originally proposed as 1 per season) penalty.
Team roster limits are still set at 18 IIRC. The addition of Christopher Carter as a preferred walk-on gives KANSAS 7 known walk-ons (along with Mike Jankovich, Wilder Evers, Charlie McCarthy, Dillon Wilhite, new JUCO D1 national champion team member Justin Cross and former KU student team manager Patrick Cassidy) and a roster of 17, so KU could still add one more player - either scholarship #11 or walk-on #8 - before Self & Co are through.
2023-06-19: Zach Clemence wants to return!
2023-06-20: Zach is back!

Pointed out on JayhawkSlant --
Jaylon Tyson (TTech) entered the portal on Sunday APR 16.
Monday APR 17 Ingram visit was delayed to APR 27, Ingram citing class schedule issues.
But starting APR 19 Ingram is at Chapel Hill, and today APR 22 he commits to the tarred ones.
Tyson is better all-around player -- the 6-6 G another 40% 3PT shooter and a superior defender.
No KU visit yet, but is definitely being set up per Shay Wildeboor today (2023-04-22 13:40 CDT)
Also talk on the Slant --
Arterio Morris (Texas; he of the legal issues) may be heading to Ole Miss with Chris Beard. Talk is that KANSAS cooled on him during his visit. No offer made. Not surprising since Hunter Dickinson visit is just now finishing up today, and the scholly # is in flux until the McCullar and Cuffe situations are ironed out. Also not surprising given Morris' legal issues. Beard would definitely be a sympathetic ear if Ole Miss is correct.

Swain 11 hours ago (VIP firewall)…
Arterio Morris wrapped up his official visit to Kansas a few days ago and my understanding is that KU will be moving on. I don’t have clearance to share more at this time, but I wouldn’t have Morris in any mock projections of next year’s roster.
According to our DePaul website, Morris in already in the Chicago area for an official visit. It’s also believed that he could visit Ole Miss, where his former coach Chris Beard is now the head coach.

This while Primo Spears is on campus for his visit.
Mad world, this transfer portal recruiting…
Seems we’ll know for sure Friday.
Meanwhile, THURSDAY 2023-05-11, 11:59 PM EDT is the NCAA deadline for basketball players to enter the Transfer Portal and be eligible to play immediately next season. Courier-Journal: Transfer Portal
Will Kyle Cuffe be a Jayhawk come May 11?
He’s got 16 days to jump in if he opts to leave.

Other news - OP updated for Tyson visit starting this Friday.
Quick recap
Dickinson (after KU visit) visited UK, now at Nova.
Primo Spears arrived on campus yesterday for his visit.
Arterio Morris will announce his decision Friday, insiders expect KU.
Jaylon Tyson visit begins this Friday.
Thursday May 11: portal closes for this spring.
Wednesday May 31: last day to withdraw from NBA draft and retain eligibility.
Commentary
If Kyle stays and Kevin returns and NOTHING ELSE HAPPENS, Bill has 1 opening to fill.
He is recruiting the portal as if he has 3 or 4.
Is Kevin gone? (My gut says no)
Is Kyle gone? (Gut wants to say no, but waffling to yes?)
Is someone else leaving or a signee wanting out?
The net has lots of talk but no substantiation — and in some cases there is vehement denial — by insiders.
This week and next should be “verrrry interesting…”
Are we having fun yet?

Labor of love, as you know.
FWIW, reports this evening are that Georgetown PG Primo Spears is really enjoying his visit *and* that his camp really wants him at KU if at all possible.

1. Hunter Dickinson (we really need a dominant big to anchor ala Big Dave and Udoka)
2. Nicholas Timberlake (we have to have a shooter who can stretch the defense and keep from packing the paint)
3. Primo Spears (we really need a scoring option at time at the PG and also the 2 PG lineup has been good for us)
4. One of Jaylon Tyson or Harrison Ingram (an experienced and versatile 3/4 who can shoot decently)
I never like the idea of Morris and some of the others who were in the mix. Of course, so much depends on how good the freshmen really are. But history says freshmen are almost never the answer. I hope Cuffe stays. I would like to see what he can do. And of course I would love for McCullar to stay. Hunter is a complete game changer. If we land him, we have to be in the hunt for a preseason No. 1.

Went very well, but no commitment announcement.
He is now visiting Florida State.
Based on all that has been reported so far, Primo & his people really want KANSAS, so I have to believe he was told where he was in the queue of KU targets for the 1-2 remaining rides (assuming nobody else but *maybe* McCullar is leaving), and right now those 1(2) are being held for Dickinson (and maybe McCullar).
Stressful enough, eh?
I really was hoping for a commitment before Primo left. On the plus side, it says a LOT to me about Bill’s feelings about Dickinson and McCulllar.
Both Mike Vernon (kuhearings.com) and Shay Wildeboor (Rivals JayhawkSlant) say Self visited Dickinson at home today between the end of HD’s UK visit 2 days ago and his Villanova visit this weekend. With Dickinson supposedly announcing his decision sometime next week, Bill clearly wanted to get in another conversation with the guy he seems to be hanging his hat on for this year’s transfer portal recruiting,
But also of note — with former Duke recruit Mackenzie Mgbako (Rivals #8 for 2023) now visiting on Monday, maybe Bill knows where he could get another ride if he had to? Maybe he just wants Mgbako over Spears?
Whether he gets the guys he wants or not, Bill is clearly putting in the work and earning his money.

The 6-8/185 top 10 SF (R#8; E#9; 247S#7) had been signed with Duke for over a year, with the idea that Kyle Filipkowski and Mark Mitchell would be OADs. Facing à significant drop in playing time when both opted to return for their sophomore seasons, Mgbako asked to be released from his NLI and Duke agreed.
He is almost certainly OAD (but then the same was said of Filipkowski and Mitchell and who knows how many others), but if Bill & Co feel Mgbako will live up to his rankings… go get ‘em, Bill!
EDIT: All three services list MM at 6-8.

No other known visits scheduled.
Most expect he'll make a decision soon between Kansas, Villanova, Maryland, Kentucky and Georgetown. Longshot: he returns to Michigan.
Dickinson quotes:
"No decision date in mind yet. Waiting 'til after Nova."
"The most important factors are winning and going somewhere where they can develop me into a pro.”
"It’s been so stressful, man. At this point, I can’t wait for it to be over. It’s only taken this long because I wanted to make sure I went out and saw the places I didn’t get to see in high school."
================
Essentially what we’ve been reading all along.
================
Per Shay Wildeboor at Rivals JayhawkSlant:
“The NIL money will be there and who wouldn’t want to play with one of the best PG’s in college basketball? He’ll average 20 or more points and 10 or more rebound per game, while playing for the best coach in college basketball.”
================
And as a Slant poster added in reply, “a tremendous fan base and atmosphere” to boot!
Given all the above, I like Bill’s chances.

Spears decision tomorrow (4-29), looks like 7 PM CDT
Tyson arrives on campus for visit, looks to be between KU and Cal (serious contender, football player brother transferring there from CU).

He has all of the tools to make a major impact at Kansas. Last season in limited time (12 MPG) due to tu’s excellent starting guards he was:
4.7 PPG
1.4 RPG
Offensively, Morris, in 36 games
41.4% floor, 32.5% trey
78.6 % FT
Potential to be an elite perimeter defender, on or off the ball.
Can score from all three levels.
Issue: pending court case on Domestic Violence charges.
I have to believe Self has done due diligence and expects things to work out for Morris.
Time will tell.
