Not looking to litigate the legitimacy of a Helms National Champion honor vs. an NCAA Tournament Champion (both have flaws in identifying the best team in the country), but the big obvious thing that nobody has mentioned is that KU got the Helms Championships in 1922 and 1923. Then we won 3 NCAAs in 1952, 1988, and 2008. Last year we won on the anneversary of the first team that was recognized as National Champions. How cool would it be to "replace" both Helms championships exactly 100 years after they were awarded?
Again, I started thinking about this last year with the 1922/2022 connection. But as a #1 seed going into this year, it's actually a reasonable possiblity that this could happen.
But after that, I think the 100 year thing is played out. I don't think any of us want to wait until 2052 to hang another banner.

I have to be honest NotO, when KU won last year, that was the first thing that popped into my head — how cool it would be to win back to back on hundredth anniversarys.
Wildest dreams of course, but here they are with a long shot, but still a possibility of being able to do it. With us losing 75% of our scoring from last year, I didn’t really think it was possible but again here they are.
Mrs. HE and I will miss most of the tournament this year because of travel plans, but we hope to be able to get recaps at the end of the day after every KU game. Hopefully, like the watched pot that never boils, our Jayhawks will fly high with us not being around to watch them become the first program to repeat as national champions since Florida in 2006 and 2007.
LET’S GO JAYHAWKS!!!
