Brian Hanni

I respect the appreciation many fans have for Brian and his love and enthusiasm for all things KU. Those qualities, as I remember, were prominent factors in his hiring.

My problem is remembering Max and Bob, who strictly adhered to correct pronunciation and whose voices, I thought, were mellifluous. I never heard either of them say, "corter" instead of quarter, or "Wishta" for Wichita.

My apologies for being too critical of a man who is doing the job for which he was hired.

My wife pointed out Fran's tendency to pronounce Kevin McCullar as "McCullah". Maybe his NY upbringing, but I twitch whenever I hear names mispronounced. Reminds me too much of Curt Gowdy in 78 calling the NCAA game in Eugene OR against UCLA when he trashed many of the players' names. Ironically, I live in Cheyenne and right outside of town is Curt Gowdy State Park where I pass the exit nearly every day. Not good for someone approaching "Get off my lawn" age.

Whatever the case, I've listened to him a few times and agree. I am not a fan. Bob and Max were hard to replace. Bob's voice was just awesome...That's a very tough individual to replace. But if Hanni is around for another 30 years I'll be very disappointed LOL.
