From CBS - www.cbssports.com/college-basketball/new...o-cement-his-legacy/

The best paragraph in the article …..
If you're keeping track, that's now 17 Big 12 regular-season titles for Self in 20 years at KU. For some context, consider that Mike Krzyzewski, widely regarded as the GOAT of college basketball coaching, won 13 regular-season conference titles in 42 years at Duke. So Self has four more than that at Kansas in 22 fewer seasons with the Jayhawks. He also won two WAC regular-season titles (at Tulsa) and two Big Ten regular-season titles at Illinois, which means the following is true: Bill Self has coached in three different leagues in the past 25 years and won 21 regular-season conference championships in that span.

I'd seen the Self/K comparison with Self's KU record. Adding in the Illinois and Tulsa info really makes this a remarkable thing.

Coach K fanboys will argue that over most of that time the ACC was stronger than the B8/B12 (at least over his first 30 years or so). Valid argument...to a point, but the gap is way too large to claim anything of substance.

Now, if Self could win another NCAA Nat or two there'd be little question.

"to a point" is the key phrase and I'd still want to see a statistical analysis. The Big 12 under Self has never been a slouch league and more recently it's been the strongest. Even at his peak, K only won 11 between 1986-2006. At this point, Self would have to go on a multi-year slide to tie K.

Nevertheless, NCs have a way of shutting people up.

I think the UI and Tulsa Championships help show it is the coach. 21 league championships in 25 years of coaching, 3 different leagues, is stupid great.
