Setting aside ISU, Baylor, and KSU for a moment, I'm looking at the race between KU and UT just to see what lies ahead there.

The odds favor Texas winning their next 4 - with the toughest 2 games being at home vs. WVU and ISU. (They'll be favored in both)

If they do, that'll put them at 12-3 heading into a tough closing 3-game stretch: at Baylor, at TCU (presumably with Miles and Lampkin back), and home vs. the good guys in the season-closing game for both.

KU stands at 7-4 with a remaining stretch of OU and OSU (away), Baylor (home), at TCU, home against WVU and TTU, then away at UT. Just going with gut instincts, I give us a solid chance of winning the next 3 - though all will be tough, especially Baylor at home (and Stillwater always posing risk). If so, that would put us at 10-4 heading into the TCU road game. Clearly, we owe them big-time for the massive curb-stomping they laid on us at the Barn. I do believe, however, that we will not have the fortune of playing them without Miles and Lampkin, which the Grapes just had at home (hence their relative ease with that win). But let's just say we exact revenge there. Then it's at home against WVU (suddenly showing a pulse, but we *have* to hold serve in that one) and then TTU at the Barn. If you chalk up 3 more wins for those, we would be 13-4 (and riding a 7-game winning streak) heading into the final UT game.

If UT were to win out - including beating Baylor and TCU at their venues, KU could win a co-title with Texas by beating them that final game. But if UT were to slip up in a game, with KU running the table to that point, KU could grab the title outright - assuming that ISU, KSU, and Baylor have all tripped up and lost at least 1 more game (for 5 or more losses on the year).

I know that's a lot of ifs, ands, and buts (with a ton of variability in the 2-team scenario), but I'll feel a lot better about KU's league title aspirations if we can win the next 3 (@OU/OSU and home vs. BAY) to set up the revenge game at TCU. One game at a time, of course, but if we play like we did the other night - and start to settle into a nice rotation that involves decent minutes off the bench for Joe, Ernest, and MJ - I like our chances.

“With kindest regards to Dr. Forrest C. Allen, the father of basketball coaching, from the father of the game.”
