Thanks to Norm Roberts for a job well done steering the ship to a 4-0 start while Self and Kurt Townsend sat out the KU imposed 4 day stay from coaching the team on game days.
This Wednesday at 1100 CT Self returns as KANSAS goes up against the Wolfpack of North Carolina State in the Battle for Atlantis on Paradise Island.
But I'm not going to write about that here.
As you know each season I track Self's season and career (KU and overall) records.
A stat that stands out for me is Self's average KU wins over his career On The Hill.
In his 19 seasons to date as the head coach for KANSAS, Self's teams have an average record of
W 29.3 L 6.5
from AY2003-04 thru AY 2021-22
So tantalizingly close to 30 wins a year.
So, how many Ws does KU need this year to get his average record to 30.0 wins each season?
44
Obviously Self is not going to accomplish that this season.
Only 40 games max each season & postseason, and he's already sat out the first 4 of those potential 40 wins for this season.
The best he could get to this time around with a perfect 36-0 (KU 40-0 overall) record would be
29.6 average wins per season
Hey, we can dream, right?
.Of course, every season where his teams win at least 31 games will help him inch closer to that 30.0 Wins per AY record at KANSAS.
Oh -- to get real nitpicky -- if you figure his first three seasons he was working with any and all of the issues of getting Roy's players to adapt to his style of play and, frankly, to him, you could look at what his record is like starting with AY2006-07, when the only Roy player left on the roster was Jeremy Case.
W 30.3 L 6.3 in the 16 years he's had his own guys.
Just chatting along on a slow day...
