We have 2 seniors, 3 juniors, 3 sophomores and 5 freshmen this season. Both seniors are transfers who have not played a minute for KU yet (Cam Martin and Kevin McCullar). One of the juniors is Joe Yesufu who also has few minutes in a KU uniform. So realistically from a career total standpoint only Juniors Dajuan Harris and Jalen Wilson have a chance to impact the record books. And at that pretty minimally. Here are the career stats milestones to look forward to this season.
1. Jalen career rebounds - he has 505. Assuming he can do that or slightly better this season he could get to 15th all time or possibly a bit more. Pretty elite company there with Thomas Robinson 14th with 763, Greg Ostertag 13th at 770 both in his sights to pass.
2. Jalen Wilson scoring -- Jalen has scored 752 points which puts him 89th all-time. Lets say he finishes with 1150 points, that would put him 5 ahead of David McCormack at 1145 for 44th all-time. But it would make him the 61st player to score 1000 points at Kansas.
3. Dajuan Harris assists -- Dajuan currently has 231 assists, 40th all-time. 351 would put him with Marcus Garrett for 19th all-time. That seems reasonable.
4. Dajuan steals -- Dajuan has 87 steals for 48th all-time. 133 would break him into the top 25 and tie Brady Morningstar.
As for season best stats that is impossible to project. But the team this year will be similar to the team last year in that there will be a lot of sharing the ball, sharing scoring, sharing rebounding. So it seems that it is unlikely that a player will have a blowout statistical season. I am fine with that. Although a few things are possible.
1. Zach Clemence could set the record for most treys for a big man. Dedric Lawson made 35 in 2019 and Josh Jackson made 34 in 2017. But they were both really wings. Luke Axtell made 31 in 2000 but he was really a wing as well. So for my money, the current best 3 point season for a KU big was Perry Ellis with 28 in 2016. I think Zach might blow through that.
2. Any freshman record -- Dick or Rice may surprise and have monster seasons and set some freshman records. We'll see.
