Sad to say, but I'm not surprised.
I know ZILCH about what goes on behind the scenes with KU staff, but I was always a little uneasy with Howard. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems like the guys we had the most problems with were Howard's recruits.
I suspected something was amiss when he left KU, and now being gone to "pursue other interests" doesn't sound great.
Hope everything is OK with him, and maybe he's had enough recruiting to last a lifetime and really wants to do something else.

Don't worry about the mules, just load the wagon!!
AZ, for my money KU upgraded astoundingly well with Howard out and Case in. I think Case may end up being the next great coach to come from KU. I love Jeremy. His pedigree is great and he is a solid young man. Being mentored by the likes of Self, Townsend, Manning is pretty career advancing. Howard always seemed like a shyster to me. Jeremy is genuine, sincere, engaging and caring.

timing of his firing cannot be just a coincidence with simultaneously pulling self and townsend off the recruiting trail. feels like both ku and texas know whats coming down and its those three who will be sanctioned. am purely guessing that jerrance knew about Preston's car. howard of course doesnt have bill’s no fire clause or the long history there so its easy to remove him. am hoping for a ten game suspension for both of our coaches and maybe two scholarships. all so silly given the new NIL rules. but i really am not worried about norm roberts coaching against emporia st and i think bill cld win with all walk-ons so dont worry abt the scholarships either. just dont want any post season ban or vacating of any wins given that weve passed kentucky for good!

Big G. I didn't put 2 and 2 together and tie Howard to the investigation and Self sitting out recruiting. That sure seems like the most logical reason for leaving TX. Can't believe I didn't think about that, but frankly, I stopped worrying about the investigation a while ago.
It all seems to fit together - Roy and K gone so there's no reason to go after the "untouchables". Sean Miller is gone from UA. Other penalties have been handed down to other schools. So now slap KU on the wrist and thank Self for not speaking publicly about how things really work and implicating his other coaching colleagues. This sorta blows over and everyone moves on with conference realignment, NIL, etc.
It sure seems like TX would have known this was possible when they took him. Maybe Self helped him out and got him a job away from KU, and it could help him later when the likely suspensions are gone.
