With Wilson and McCullar in the fold a lot of people are discussing the possibility of repeating as NC next year.

I love the idea, but oooh, history is not in our favor. Only 7 programs have managed the feat, and only UCLA in its heyday under Wooden has done it more than once.

BACK TO BACK NCAA TOURNAMENT CHAMPIONS
Florida 2006, 2007
Duke 1991, 1992
UCLA 1964 through 1975; NC 10 of 12 seasons, only missed winning it all in 1966 and 1974.
Cincinnati 1961, 1962
San Francisco 1955, 1956 (Bill Russell BMOC)
Kentucky 1948, 1949
Oklahoma State (as O A&M) 1945, 1946, the first program to win the NCAAT in consecutive years

In the "modern era" of the 64(68) team tournament and shot clocks and 3 point arcs, only Duke and Florida have accomplished the feat. Both programs had the same core lineups each season.

Florida in AY2006-07 had all their first 7 from the 05-06 NC season return to go for the back-to-back NCs. IIRC the starting 5 from that team made a pact to that effect. They had the same 7 guys as their top scorers for those two seasons. Five future NBA players were on the 2006 NC team, and they added a 6th future NBA player for the 2007 champions.

With KU losing 74% of its scoring from last year's team, repeating as National Champions in 2023 would be a HUGE testament to Self's KU program and his status as the best coach in the game today.

Three reasons I don't think it will happen.
1) This years team was on a mission after getting denied a chance in 2020. In some ways like 1988/1986. To do all the hard things for 9 or 10 months starting a couple weeks ago takes an incredible sense of purpose. Thanks for all the sacrifice guys, but again is more than I can imagine.
2) Freshmen will play lots of minutes.
3) Racing luck; Dave and Remy got healthy at the optimal times; opponents kept having key injuries.
All that and it takes a massive comeback to win a close game.
