The conference championship streak is over, and I'm glad. It consumed Self and this team, and in today's world, it isn't relevant. Off the top of your heads, who has won the ACC, The Big 10, the SEC or the Pac 10 regular season championship the last two years. I don't know, and I don't care. Nobody else cares about KU's streak besides us. Well done for a decade, now move on.
We now can focus on getting ready for March, and getting our young guys some playing time. Back to the reality of every other team in the country. Play your season, get a high seed in the tourney, and peak in March. Our reality of winning the conference is done this year.
We can't win with Lucas and Traylor, so let's work on new rotations and getting Bragg, Svi, Diallo and Greene into the mix - before we have a mutiny and guys start to quit or transfer.
Relax, play loose, have fun (which isn't happening now) and get back to good basketball - which we're capable of.
I'm done complaining, unless Self sticks with the ridiculous six man rotation he's been going with. How foolish and unsuccessful it has been, and it's a shame. I just want to enjoy watching, and texting with my friends. Right now, none of us are having fun. Life is too short for angst - let's get back to having fun.
Rock Chalk.

Let me put more meat on these bones, and the sentiments in this new thread, because I concur.
A stark reality hit me this morning, upon sober reflection, and I think it bears underscoring:
Our current rotation is a notable step down from last year's team.
In fact, it's a carbon copy of last year's team: the one that won the Big 12--woohoo!--but flamed out in the Dance in a lifeless, limp game against trash-talking Greg Marshall and WSU.
Except it gets even worse. The current team is a carbon copy except last year's team had Kelly Oubre, who by the conference season was finally getting some minutes and proceeded to become one of our better, more dynamic players.
This year's rotation? It's last year's minus Kelly, with Devonte in a starter role: Ellis, Selden, Frank, Lucas/Traylor.
No growth, no advancement, no integration of potentially valuable pieces from the bench (Mickelson) or from the acclaimed recruitment pool (Bragg, Diallo, Vick).
Self has obviously settled on Ellis, Selden, Mason, Graham, and Lucas/Traylor as our rotation, and pushed all his chips to the middle of the table around that personnel approach. Bragg's and Diallo's minutes and development? Nothing but an afterthought. And too "risky" as we pursue #12 (playing for the short term--and now badly--while taking our eye off the long-term, ultimate focus: the postseason and tournament success).
As for Mickelson, he might as well be selling Dr. Pepper in the stands while mumbling strange nothings to himself. He's gone from quality minutes to mop-up to "DNP" in key games.
What a bizarre year. And I still submit that we wasted the entire non-conference schedule not actively playing, testing, iterating, evolving, advancing, and gelling with those other pieces on the floor. WE KNEW WHAT WE HAD (we know what we have) WITH THE LEFTOVERS FROM LAST YEAR. And we know where they are going to take us, or not take us, come March.
With the free-fall now fully underway, the question turns to this: Is it too late to shift course?
“With kindest regards to Dr. Forrest C. Allen, the father of basketball coaching, from the father of the game.”

My flag is still at full staff, but my morale is in desperate need of "mental Viagra." Were it not for this board, I would probably throw in the towel for the season. With just a little over a minute left in the game I posted "Game, set, match, . . .season nfm" and went to bed. This morning I log in to a GIANT thread in response to my tantrum. The digital comradery of this board keeps me going, and for that I thank you all.
P.S. Where is Mom?

I kept hoping, just once, just once, just once, please try Hunter. But alas, stubborn Self just sat and watched this disaster.
At the beginning, I thought..... FINALLY. They were actually playing like they were a KU team. Then all fell apart fast. I can count on maybe 2 fingers the times I have turned off the tv early and last night, at the 5 minute mark, I gave up. Couldn't watch anymore. I knew the outcome. Did they rush the floor again???? They really shouldn't because beating a poor team shouldn't excite anybody.
I like everybody else believe it is all in Self's lap. He has lost his ability to see what we all see. Maybe he should stay home one game and watch on tv I can just see Kenyucky smiling already. Geez what a trashing that will be.

"I think it's very demoralizing when you leave a timeout saying we're going to run a play and then the play is broken off and the guy just cranks up a three," Kansas coach Bill Self said. "If we wanted him to shoot a three with 25 left on the clock we would have told him to do that."
Self did not identify the player in question, but his reaction to a first-half three-pointer from Selden with 16 seconds left on the shot clock, a stunned expression, palms pointing to the air, indicated that could have been the shot to the coach's gut. And it was the only three-pointer Selden made in six attempts. Self always has maintained he judges the wisdom of a shot when it leaves the hand, not whether it goes through the net, and he proved it at that moment.
I would prefer a more result driven approach. You may design a great play but when opportunity arises... I wonder if this is also why Mickelson is in the dog house?
