I have been a Dave fan since he came to campus. He has had his ups and downs on the court but a whole lot more ups than downs. Much has been made of his inconsistency but in reality the inconsistency has not been so much Bad Dave/Good Dave as Great Dave/Okay Dave. To be sure he has also had a few stinker games and moments. But the data shows that Dave’s inconsistency has generally been when he is merely good versus those times when he completely dominates. I am on the road and do not have access to his player rating data which is on my home computer. But it clearly shows that on balance David was something better than good and approaching great. And don’t even get me started on the abortion that was Final Four MVP voting. I sure hope they change that system for next season. I would make a bold statement that the MVP was not even arguably David. We had wonderful contributions across the board. Christian sort of dominated for a stretch in the 2nd half against UNC. Remy hit some critical shots. Dajuan was a key defender. Ochai was Ochai. Jalen was pretty solid and critical throughout. But David in my strong opinion elevated above the rest as a clear MVP. As for his academics, he is at a level that is seriously elite. Perry Ellis, and Darnell Valentine come to mind and I’m sure we have had others. I believe Jacque was at a similar level. But given David’s consistent academic excellence on a national scale, his almost great 4 year career and his actual FF MVP he has at least a reasonable argument to have his Hersey hung in the rafters. I personally would like to see them add the academic recognition as a criteria for inclusion. National Academic All-American is pretty sweet.

Don't worry about the mules, just load the wagon!!

5. Academic All-American of the Year

Roy’s Rule so Vaughn's jersey could be in the rafters

Bill’s newer Conference POY would put JV up there, too (JV 1996 Big 8 POY)

Of course this honor is a Big 12 honor for DAVE, not national, so it falls short of the existing criteria.

Regarding the FF MOP discussion.

Bacot scored 15 points in the title game.
(3-13 FG, 9-13 FT).

Bacot scored 12 points in H1, but just 2 with Dave in the game.

DAVE in: Bacot 1-5 FG, 0 FT
DAVE OUT: Bacot 2-2 FG, 6-9 FTs

With DAVE in for all but 1:05 in H2 despite foul trouble—

H2 Bacot 0-6 FG, 3-4 FTs for 3 points

MOP.

EVERY ONE of the starters made crucial contributions in both games, and yes, if any one of them hadn’t, KU *probably* does not win.

But without DAVE’s performance, KU had no chance whatsoever.

Two games.
40 Most points scored
19 Most rebounds secured
In: KU +41
Out: KU -22

MOP.

(That’s a small but SIGNIFICANT *period* after that MOP.)

Dave has done more for me personally than any player I can remember. I get wrapped up in details, and he frustrated the hell out of me.

But, he delivered in the final minutes of the game, and now he’s the Academic All American. I couldn’t be more HAPPY AND PROUD of him, and I’ve learned - hopefully - to remember these are just kids, and they will win and fail a lot as they grow. But they’re amazing people and Big Mac made my year.

No.

He is the Big 12 Men's Basketball Scholar-Athlete of the Year, a conference honor, not a national one.

He may later be named to the Academic All-American team, but that is not what this announcement is about.

Repeating yourself, AZ.

The article I posted is about the Big 12 honor, not the national one.

But your duplicate post made me look to see if I had missed something else to which you were referring.

Turns out the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-American team was announced back on March 15.

Ben Vander Plas (Ohio University) was named Division 1 Academic AA of the Year.

The table below lists the Div 1 teams 1 thru 3.

Unfortunately DAVE did not make any of the teams.
But another Big 12 student-athlete did make their list.

Interesting that the Big 12 honor named DAVE in light of the previously announced CoSIDA selections.

EDIT: just checked my phone and the table format looks crappy. Format is fine on desktop PC and iPad. Sorry for the inconvenience smartphone viewers. HE
