"Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one's lifetime." - Mark Twain "Innocents Abroad"
— to his bitter rival — who beat him in his last ever home game and now has beaten him in the only meeting the two programs have ever had in the NCAA Tournament.
Couldn’t happen to a ????? guy…
Say bye bye…

"When I was a freshman, I remember Coach Naismith telling us how important it was to play good defense." - Mitch Lightfoot
So happy for this. The absolute LAST thing I wanted going into this game was 48 hours of hype around that guy. Good riddance, K. Dukie V must be clinically depressed.

Let me start with this littlle note -- no one ever talked about the fact that K had previously gone on record that he did not want to have a "farewell tour" season. Guess he changed his mind after Duke's lousy 13-11/9-9 2021 season.
The hypocrisy that screamed out at me last night was that after Duke announced in June 2021 that this season would be his last, we have put up with over 9 months of the media and Duke fans slobbering all over K in his "farewell season" -- only to endure his audacity when the final game had been lost as he tried to tell the media "It's not about me, it's about these kids."
Bull puckey -- this whole season has been about him.
Ferret faced sourpuss saw a chance to get one more title, and he took it.
I will say this -- he is right that it SHOULD be about the kids.
But by announcing ahead of the season that this would be his last, he obliterated any chance of this season being about anything but him. And if he were to say he never saw that coming, I would call him a bald-faced liar.
I will give him credit for one thing and one thing only - he has been the best coach in D1 MBB since the beginning of the "modern era" (1985 on, with the establishment of the 64 team field in the NCAAT and the shot clock [45 seconds, then 35 in 1993 and 30 for the 2015-16 season] and then the 3 point shot in 1987).
I will note with some pleasure that after our coach left us and gave us the opportunity to get Bill Self, in his new job Roy out performed K in every critical way. K won more games over those 18 years, both in total (507 to 485) and in head-to-head competition (22-18) but...
Say "bye bye"...

And let's not forget in his post game interview, he called out his player who missed some free throws in the late part of the game.
He had to walk it back because social media exploded for the way he pretty much pushed the blame off on a kid who missed a couple of FTs.
To quote the Fat Albert cartoon: "he's like school in the summertime....no class."

and while we are at lets call out our coach for being right yet again in the way he selects and develops talent. even on this board in January ( like every January) we had a few people call out the coach and the team for their serious and limiting deficiencies. for not fixing the personnel issues from last year. for playing through big dave too often. for playing a pg who couldn't shoot. of course those posters ( im-posters) disappear this time of year. we have the best program in the history of college basketball. we have high character student-athletes who work hard and play the right way. we have a coach who when he retires will be recognized as the best ever at what he does ( he is just starting i think). can we all agree to remember how we feel now when next january comes around? go hawks!

And yet ESPN continues to pontificate about him. It's Monday and the title game, but the top two stories are Puke (at least at 8:00 AM). Aaaaggghhh..............
