Why I hate this round of the tournament

To me, it seems that psychologically this round is the ultimate "trap" game.

Round 1 is euphoric. Everyone is excited. Top teams are motivated NOT to make a Cinderella's day.
Round 2 is still full of focus on getting out of the weekend unscathed.

This round seems to be where people begin to lose focus. The Final Four is soooo tantalizingly close. It's human nature to look past today's game and NOT recognize that we could face the winner of a 10/11 matchup to make it to the Final Four. Finally, NOBODY brags about making the "great 8". People seem to make a bigger deal about making the sweet 16 than actually winning the sweet 16 game.

For that reason, it always feels like this is the most dangerous game of the bunch. There's just not the same level of motivation to a.) avoid an upset in round 1, b.) make the sweet 16, or c.) make the final four.

If this round were a golf major it would be the PGA Championship.

"When I was a freshman, I remember Coach Naismith telling us how important it was to play good defense." - Mitch Lightfoot

And Self at Kansas is 8-2 in the Sweet 16.

Let’s get #9!

Number 9, number 9, number 9…
