Good stuff.

Friday night will mark the 11th Sweet 16 appearance by the Jayhawks in 18 NCAA Tournaments under Self. Kansas is 8-2 in those previous 10 Sweet 16 battles. Self will be coaching his 14th Sweet 16 game as a head coach. He is 10-3 in his previous 13 trips.
Past success does not forecast future joy on the same stage, but there are plenty of reasons to like the Jayhawks’ chances because of what they have shown at this point in the NCAA Tournament in past seasons under Self.
KU’s eight Sweet 16 wins under Self have come by an average of 15 points per victory. That includes a 32-point win over Purdue in 2017, a 26-point win over UAB in Self’s first NCAA Tournament with the Jayhawks, a 20-point win over Richmond in 2011 and double-digit wins over Maryland (2016) and Villanova (2008), as well.
Five of the eight Sweet 16 wins under Self came against programs from power conferences.
What’s more, seven of the 10 Sweet 16 games previously played by Self-coached Kansas teams took place on a Friday, with the Jayhawks going 5-2 in those games.

Self's teams are damn tough when they have the Sweet 16 week to prepare. Always have been. It's the Elite 8 game on short rest and prep that seem to be the Achilles' heel. Honestly it's pretty weird because Self is damn good on Big Monday which is the same short rest and prep setup from what is usually a game just the Saturday before. Hopefully we can take down Providence because the other side of the bracket is pretty favorable compared to what it could have been.

Been saying for a while - not worried bc Self has kicked ass in the S16 dating back to Illinois and Tulsa. Only 2 losses at KU were Michigan where we played great until melting down with 3 minutes left (and Burke going off) and against a superior Michigan State team in 2009 and we played our asses off that game.
Pressure now is knowing that we have to play poorly to not make the Final Four and thats a tougher pill to swallow if it happens.

KU’s Elite 8 “struggles” are really overblown. KU has just ran into some really good teams.
GTech had - 2 players with 10+ years in the NBA
UCLA -had 4 guys who played in the NBA for 10+ years and had a future NBA MVP and scoring champ coming off the bench
VCU - KU should have curb stomped them.
Nova - 6 NBA players and I’m not sure how Perry scoring 12 points below his season average is on Self
Oregon - Good team bad matchup.
So out of those 5 Elite 8’s I would say that VCU was the only game where KU was absolutely the better team on the court.
Pretty much covers the bases for me looking forward.
And looking back I must note that the UCLA loss in San Jose in 2007 also came with some of the most biased officiating I have ever seen in an NCAAT game. The National Semifinal refs didn’t let UCLA get away with playing their whack-a-mole defense (UCLA pf 26, Florida 17) like the West Regional Finals refs (UCLA pf 14, Kansas 19). The muggings those regional refs allowed were the difference in that game, despite all the excellent talent the Bruins had. Doggone hard to win playing 5 on 8.
Good stuff.
