I ventured down the road to Bel Aire, KS last night where Sunrise Christian Academy is located to watch them play We Are Untied from Missouri. Sunrise is currently the #1 rated High School team in the nation according to the
ESPN rankings
.
One of the main reason I went was watch watch KU commit Gradey Dick play. He is a highly ranked player these days and I wanted to see it for myself. He started out slowly missing his first three or four threes. He kept working hard and finally got to the line after being fouled on a drive to the hoop. After that he heated up scoring 16 by halftime.
What struck me is that he is long, 6'7" with a reported 7' wingspan. He has a very smooth shot and he can jump. My favorite highlight was when he came in uncontested for a weakside rebound on the baseline and jumping from outside the block in the lane snatched a missed shot in the air and forcefully jammed it home. it was very athletic.
Gradey had a game-high 22 points on 7-15 shooting (5-11 from three), 6 rebounds, an assist, and a steal and that was in less than 3 quarters of play.
I am glad he is a Jayhawk and believe he will do Jayhawk Nation proud.
