Girod just announced that mask wearing will be REQUIRED for the next games in AFH for both the women's and men's games. We need Self to step forward and ask all to follow that requirement.

Agreed… and he needs to lead from the front.

Mask mandate to be enforced this time. Unmasked will be asked to leave.

Do you know if they will have masks available for people who show up without one, but decide they want to stay even if they have to wear a mask?

Unfortunately I won't be in the ole barn, but I do wear my Jayhawk masks everywhere I go here in the Bay Area. It never fails to get a "Rock Chalk" out of someone . . . :cheer:

Earlier they were offering free masks for those that forgot to bring one. I assume that will be the case moving forward. In a KC Times interview, Self states that he plans to wear a mask moving forward until such time that the CDC says it is no longer necessary.

Per KU Athletics

What should fans expect when attending a game?

Upon parking and walking to the arena, fans will be reminded with signage that masks must be worn inside Allen Fieldhouse.
Fans will be required to have a mask on and properly worn when entering the Fieldhouse.
After passing through security, fans will notice additional event staff who have been placed around the concourses to monitor masks being worn at all times.
What will happen if I don’t want to wear a mask?

Enforcement will include fan removal from Allen Fieldhouse.
Including: Three strike policy
Strike 1: Usher warning
Strike 2: Event Staff Supervisor warning
Strike 3: Removal Team (public safety and event supervisor) – these are employees are trained in the art of “ejection”
It is important to remember the reason behind this mask mandate. KU and Allen Fieldhouse are looking to play an important role in protecting the community by doing our part to slow the spread of the highly contagious COVID-19 variant. If our fans comply, as we expect them all to, our hope is to significantly slow the spread of this virus.
How will fans be removed?

Fans will be given a verbal warning to wear their mask by a member of the event staff. If they do not comply, a supervisor will be called to provide another warning. If the fan does not comply after that, a member of the enforcement removal team will be called to escort the patron from the building.
Additionally, if fans do not wear masks as mandated, there is significant risk that attendance would be decreased at upcoming games.
Is this similar to that previous mask mandate from the fall semester that, quite frankly, didn’t appear to be strictly enforced?

Fans were not removed under the KU mask mandate implemented in August.
However, that will no longer be the case with this Douglas County mandate. If fans do not comply with this mandate, they will be removed from Allen Fieldhouse.
How is this different from the original mask mandate that was changed to recommended only a couple of weeks ago?

On January 7th, Douglas County implemented an emergency mask mandate for all indoor public spaces to protect the community against the latest COVID-19 surge.
The county mandate applies to Allen Fieldhouse, so masks will once again be required at all events inside the Fieldhouse.
If I purchase concessions and hold food and drink at my seat, do I have to wear a mask?

Yes, when not ACTIVELY eating or drinking.
If individuals do not wear a mask or try to pretend they are actively eating or drinking, there is a strong possibility that concessions could be shut down.
There are a number of arenas around the country that have closed concessions at basketball games for this exact reason.

47 studies confirm ineffectiveness of masks for COVID and 32 more confirm their negative health effects.

Wearing a mask to stop infection is like putting up a chain link fence to stop flys and mosquitoes.

I read part of the article from Life Site and it appears to me to be a case of, as the Rock Man in “The Point” said “You see what you want to see and you hear what you want to hear.” In the article the author points to the fact that a lot of the people that caught Covid wore masks. It is hard to know what % of the time they wore masks and how consistently but it is also factually known that masks are not 100% effective and nobody that I know of is suggesting they are. They reduce the risk but do not eliminate it. Here is a different perspective on the topic.

Maybe you believe that all scientists world wide are trying to deceive us into wearing masks because some of us, like me, are so ugly that it would make everyone feel better if we wore masks.

HH, you nailed it. The best data to support masking was actually collected in KS. Counties and communities that had mask mandates were shown to have much, much lower hospitalization and death rates than ones that did not.

Congratulations to Riley and Douglas counties who have had the two lowest infection rates per 1,000 in KS and the second and third lowest death rates. This is something we can cheer together with our sister Big 12 institution and our respective communities. Go KU and KSU (but not in sports).

I want to thank Socalhawk for giving me peace of mind. As a physician and proud alumnus of our great KU Medical school, where virology was part of our infectious disease curriculum, I am grateful knowing that I won’t have to stand next to you or your ilk when I attend future games at Allen.
