According to the box score, KU took 15 more shots than GMU (63-48).

I know that turning a team over a lot and strong offensive rebounding can lead to more shots, but while KU had more than GMU in each of those categories, it wasn't by a huge number. So I was curious what led to the differential. I could just be overthinking this, but just curious if anyone has some quick insight into it.
Thanks,
Port

I think it really is as simple as it sounds. 5 less turnovers, 5 more steals and 6 more offensive rebounds. It was a really good game for Mr, Coleman-Lands to finally make shots as nobody else other than Mr. Lightfoot could. It looked to me like one of those games where very few of the breaks went the Jayhawk's way, but a win is a win. Mr. McCormack has got to learn to play less sped up. I think Mr. Yesufu is pretty frustrated right now. I really hope he can fight through it because I think he is going to be very good when he does. I hope the team does not succumb to the tendency to underachieve in Stillwater.

Don't worry about the mules, just load the wagon!!
Port, the primary statistical unit for evaluating is a possession. Teams average about 70 possessions per game although some very up-tempo teams can average close to 80 (think UNC under Roy Williams) and some very slow-tempo teams can average closer to 60 (think Virginia typically). Each possession can end as follows
1. Made field goal
2. Made FT('s)
3. Missed FG with defensive rebound
4. Missed FT with defensive rebound
5. Turnover
Offensive rebounds count as offensive efficiency since they maintain possession. In the George Mason game, both teams had 68 possessions. KU had only 9 TO's (very good) for a %LoB of 13.2%. On the other 59 possessions they got at least 1 shot off or went to the FT line. GMU had 68 possessions but had 14 TO's for a %LoB of 20.6% (pretty normal). That means they only had 54 possessions where they got a shot off or went to the FT line. But they had 4 offensive rebounds to KU's 10. So KU would get 6 more opportunities to shoot or get to the FT line plus the 5 fewer TO's. But GMU had more FT's than KU to offset the FGA.
