Starting under Ted Owens in the 1973-74 season, KANSAS has won 48 home openers in a row.
10 Ted Owens
5 Larry Brown
15 Roy Williams
18 Bill Self
While going almost half a century without losing a home opener is indeed impressive, it is a reality that the visiting teams for these games are seldom Top 25 or even Top 50 teams. We could probably stretch it to include Top 100 teams, but I'm sure there have been a few of those in all those years. However, while clearly not bearing the same cachet of 38 straight Senior Night wins, 48 straight home opener wins still is an admirable feat and a testament to the excellence of KANSAS Men's Basketball over the last almost 5 decades.
Also of note -- for the
10th-consecutive year, KANSAS enters the season ranked seventh or higher. KU is No. 3 in the 2021-22 preseason Associated Press poll released Oct. 18.
Just a little teaser if you didn't get to read the
KUAD pregame notes.
