1,7 seconds to go full court to score?

Not UCR senior foward JP "I ain't Dribbling no Ball" Moorman!

After ASU's Luther Muhammad hit a runner in the lane to give the Sun Devils a 65-63 lead, ASU defender Marcus Bagley goes for the steal on the inbounds pass and misses.

Moorman makes Bagley pay for leaving him wide open by taking just one dribble -- to set himself -- and then hitting the Game Winner from 66 feet feet away.
Here's the story.

Note: I determined the 66 feet as follows --

NCAA court length: 94 feet, so 47 feet to the half court line.
Coaches boxes (CB) run 28 feet from the baseline toward center court, so the distance between the CB line and the center court line is 19 feet.

Moorman launched his shot from the sideline at the far CB line, so 19' + 47' = 66'

"Where have you gone Remy Martin? Man!
Sun Devils wish you were in Tempe still.
What's that chill?
What's that you say, Kansas Jayhawk fan?
Cognac Remy's playing on The Hill?!?
Jayhawks are thrilled!
Jayhawks are thrilled!"

Given that the center of the hoop is 5'3" from the endline behind it, I was curious how much my 66' estimate differed from the reality.

Bottom line is since the shot was taken from the sideline and not on the center line running from hoop to hoop, his shot was actually closer to 66' than 65'. Close enough for me!:P

In case it interests you (and even if it doesn't ), here's the simple math, using
Ye Auld Theorem of Pythagoras (A2 + B2 = C2)
Player shoots from the sideline at the far coach's box line.
25	A = distance in feet to basket center (COB ) from either sideline
94	L = court total length in feet
5.25	H (for hoop) = near endline to COB = (4’ to backboard front) + (1’3” to COB)
88.75	M = L-H = court length from far endline to sideline spot lining up w/COB
28	S (for Stay!) = feet from far endline to far coach’s box line
60.75	B = M-S = sideline length from shot site at far coach’s box line to spot lining up w/COB
4315.56	= (A*A) + (B*B) = C*C the square of the shot distance
65.69	C = shot distance

Thank you, Mrs. Betty Workman!
