Full text of tweet

As mentioned yesterday by BTM “The Source” the door is now cracked open.

Basketball will play important role in realignment?

This is going to take some time..but something has changed inside Big Ten. B1G Expansion door no longer slammed shut.

According to those who have been following this fellow, he has been pretty adamant that the B1G is not interested in expanding at all.

This news conflicts with what he originally believed, but elsewhere in his tweets he also states it makes sense from a TV perspective. Apparently the SEC thinking about going to a 4 pod format in football instead of two divisions is part of the icebreaker. Setting up 4 pods (emphasizing geographic relationships) and having two conference semifinals games involving the 4 pod winners would be a big boost for TV contract $. This could be speeding up the expansion timeframe for the B1G and schools from the ACC and PAC would be off the table. Logical target pool would be Big 12 teams.

And he also mentions that B1G commission Kevin Warren is a big hoops fan.

Keep your fingers crossed, but don’t hold your breath. Things may be speeding up, but they will probably still take many months to play out.

Full tweet text:
-Big Ten hired former OSU team physician Jim Borchers as its first chief medical officer
-52% of all live BTN programming this year will promote women’s sports
-basketball will play an “important role” in realignment. Warren said he loves all college sports but adores hoops

Again, Kevin Warren being the B1G commissioner.

Get ready for the end of March Madness owned and controlled by the NCAA.

Two things generate huge TV dollars - college football and March Madness/Final 4

Conferences will realign to best capture money from those two sources, including a basketball tournament where the money goes to the schools, not the NCAA.

Which means we’ll have a shot at the B16 based on Self, regardless of whether we get the FB team out of the skids (which I think Liepold will do in a few years)

1. I agree on each point.

2. My German heritage drives me to point out it is spelled
Leipold
E before I, despite its pronunciation.

General rule with Germanic languages, when “ei” are together, pronounce as second vowel, not first. Common word Stein, say with long i “stine”.

Examples of “ei” pronounced as long i:

Bernstein
Einstein
Eisenhower
Frankenstein
Leipold

Here’s to Leipold getting famous enough to at least be considered as belonging in the above list of famous “EI”s.

Tag teaming with Leipold (ī) becoming famous, another omen he will.

He is HC at Kansas.
His initials are LL.
Superman was raised in Kansas, and two of his favorite famous folk are Lois Lane and Lana Lang… and on the famous baddie spectrum there is Lex Luthor.

LL, Kansas, Superman — ties & portents Lance Leipold can’t miss?

Sure hope so!

Yep, it’s been one of those mornings in the HE household. When I’m not talking in a high pitched voice (HE HE!), I’m gettin’ all White & Nerdy!

Rock Chalk, baybee! and have a great weekend!

I gladly stand corrected, and enjoyed the German pronunciation lesson!

Just heard from a friend in Vegas who said KU is 1,000,000 to 1 to win the Big12. Bet a dollar, win a million. Still the worst bet in Vegas probably.

I’m still waiting for my payoff on the over 1.5 wins this season. Can we possible find a way to win ONE more game??

I’m sure hoping for at least one more W this year!
