Pac-12 decision — No expansion at this time

Pretty much as expected.


Now we see “what happens next?”

Big 12 stay together to keep OU/tu under contract until summer 2025, at which point new members waiting in the wing are added?
Cincy? UCF? Houston?
Get 2 to get back to 10?
Also add someone else to get back to 12?

The times they are a-changing…

The delay will allow the Big 12 to try to stabilize so it can go forward. When it fails, the Alliance members will not be poaching but rescuing. They gave the Big 12 a chance, now let’s pick it apart.

And their new media contracts will allow for increases if new members are brought on board.

I agree… BUT…

KU needs to plan for all contingencies, including keeping the Big 12 alive and an A5/P5 conference in case no other options present themselves. Staying at 8 will almost certainly mean the B12 will drop from that status. Even adding say some combination of Houston or Cincinnati or UCF or BYU (apparently being looked at again) might not be enough to keep the B12 at the Autonomous 5/Power 5 table, even if sitting in the lowest seat.
