TheAthletic.com: Big Ten, Pac-12, ACC alliance expected to be formally announced soon: Sources

Excerpt:
As much fun as it is to theorize about future nonconference games between Clemson, Ohio State and Oregon, that isn't necessarily all a potential Big Ten, Pac-12 and ACC alliance is about.

The Alliance — which really needs to be the official name of this, with capitalization, please — goes far beyond the concepts of scheduling and television inventory.

There are many administrators in the Big Ten, Pac-12 and ACC who believe in the collegiate model and want it to continue; even those who have enthusiastically embraced name, image and likeness reform don't want to see college football become an actual minor league system for the NFL with a draft, player salaries and the like. They worry that the SEC's aggression could lead to something like that.

So, where does that leave the Big Ten, Pac-12 and ACC and their schools? That's the (multi-)million-dollar question.

END EXCERPT

Note that this article shows in everything *but* words that the other conferences are confident the B12 will dissolve and be absorbed in the next few years--generally sooner than later. The lack of any mention of the Big 12 is informative.

And nothing we are reading -- in this article or elsewhere -- indicates anything about what the Alliance members are planning regarding expansion of their respective conferences. They could do nothing about expansion, or the B1G, the PAC-12 and the ACC could all announce expansions tomorrow. Either way, the Alliance would still go forward.

ESPN.com: Penn State AD says the Big Ten has more than money on its mind while exploring alliance with Pac-12, ACC

Lots of ill-informed or uninformed folks out there only focusing on $$$.

While the article is focused on the Alliance, the same mindset expressed certainly applies to new B1G/Pac-12/ACC members as well -- as most of us have been saying from the start.

Nothing new to us, but confirmation from inside the conference that our perspective is not off.

Now I return you to the long sea voyage of "The Jayhawk" 2025... nary a speck of land in sight as we are forced to set sail, but we have high hopes of landfall in a better place in the future.
