Should your co-workers or "friends" (real or otherwise) put this in your face anytime soon with comments such as "desperate much?" or just laughter in general... just laugh back at 'em.

Lots of people who do not understand (and yes, haters as well) are dissing this promo for KU's "Jayhawks Ascend" NIL program that was released the same day the program was announced last week (July 30, 2021; see post here).

It’s clearly an NIL program promotion for anyone who knows what “Jayhawks Ascend” references. The “Jayhawks Ascend” program logo is in the upper right hand corner. Unfortunately the NIL program and promo just happens to have come out the same time as the realignment events, so people who don’t know what “Jayhawks Ascend” is could easily interpret it as related to our desire to leave the ashes of the Big 12 behind — instead of advertising for our NIL program, of which IMO it does a poor job.

For example, put a blurb that reads "The NIL Program for KU Student-Athletes" or something similar under the JA logo so people know what it is about.

With Douglas County a part of the Kansas City-Overland Park-Kansas City Combined Statistical Area (link) since 2013, the historical ties to the KC Metro Area are stronger than ever. With Lawrence just 40 miles away from KC Metro features such as the T-Mobile Center* and 50 miles from KCI*, it is a good idea to mention the closeness to the metro and the major airport (then mention the new terminal if you think it worthy, since with KCI's rep it *is* a big thing). With so, so many people around the country having no idea how close KU is to KC, it's a definite selling point for our alma mater.

Also -- with the ok for NIL just being NCAA approved on July 1, 2021, the rapid deployment of this program shows KU stepping smartly out with NIL, and any major college athletics department that is not doing something similar and promoting the heck out of it is falling very far behind very quickly. It's a big deal for recruiting across all college sports, not just hoops and fb.

*We live in NW Lawrence and it is 42 miles door to door to what used to be called the Sprint Center, and 50 minutes to KCI - the latter the same time it takes folks in Lee's Summit in the SE KCMO area to get to KCI.
