KUSports.com - Smith: ‘Back to work’: Jalen Wilson announces he’ll return to KU basketball for sophomore year.
ROCK CHALK, JAYHAWK!
Now we just need to get Remy locked in and then see what Ochai decides.
Should Ochai decide to stay in the draft there are still some big unattached names in the portal (July 1 was the deadline for entering it in time to still be eligible for immediate playing time this winter.) Whether or not KU would go after any of them is another question, but some would be miiiiighty tempting to pursue.
CBS Sports: Ranking college basketball's top 2021 transfers: Illinois star center Kofi Cockburn enters portal ranks what they consider to be the top 85 portal players this season. Most are already committed to a new home, but there are still some interesting players available for any program to consider.
#1 Illini sophomore Kofi Cockburn (top of the list for the entire process this year) would be huge for anyone who gets him.
(BTW and FWIW, he pronounces his surname "CO-burn". That's some PR move, but I don't think it's gonna help with the jokes without also changing that "k" to an "h"...)
The other names still looking for a place to play after CBS #1 Cockburn are --
#2 Marcus Carr SG Minnesota: 6-2, scores in and out and a solid distributor.
#19 Kevin Obanor F Oral Roberts: per CBS "Obanbor burst onto the national scene during Oral Roberts' Sweet 16 run as he racked up three consecutive double-doubles against the likes of Ohio State, Florida and Arkansas. The 6-8 forward averaged 18.7 points and 9.6 rebounds as a junior and hit 46.3% of his 3-point attempts. His positional versatility and all-around game make him an appealing late addition to the portal."
#21 Dawson Garcia F Marquette: "averaged 13 points and 6.6 rebounds per game as a freshman at Marquette while earning Big East All-Freshman honors. The 6-11 forward is a true stretch big who shot 35.6% from 3-point range last season while starting 27 games. The former top-40 prospect appears poised to develop into an all-conference performer wherever he ends up."
#68 Cedric Russell G Louisiana: "The 6-2 guard was a first-team All-Sun Belt performer as a senior this past season, averaging 17.2 points on 40% 3-point shooting for a team that finished 17-9. In a season-opening game against Baylor, Russell poured in 26 points on 10 of 17 shooting against the eventual national champions."
#81 Moussa Cisse C Memphis: "After reclassifying from the Class of 2021 to the Class of 2020, Cisse struggled offensively for Memphis as a freshman. However, the 6-10 center owns an incredible wingspan and blocked 1.6 shots per game in just 18.6 minutes per contest, and has enough upside to become an impact college player in the right spot. He's also going through the NBA Draft process." Potential???
Twilight time in the decision process is approaching fast, hope Ochai is letting HCBS know what's up so KU can plan accordingly... and best of luck to him whatever his decision may be.
HEY REMY! Come on, man, time's a-wastin'!
