Word is he tore “3 ligaments”, but I can find nothing yet on the actual nature of the injury (ligaments, especially multiple, usually means knee, but again, no info yet). All I’ve been able to find is this…

More to follow I’m sure…

Ankle, not knee, ligaments per Shay on JayhawkSlant. He is also hearing just a few weeks?

One of the docs on Slant wrote “if he tore his three ankle ligaments there's varying degrees of a tear. Basically if they are minor tears he can recover from that without surgery in a matter of weeks. If he has to have surgery to repair the three ligaments in the ankle then it's more likely several months recovery time. HUGE difference between ankle ligaments and knee ligaments.”

NB: Achilles isn't a ligament, it's a tendon, so apparently not involved.

So maybe not as bad as initially imagined.

And just found Gary Bedore’s KCStar report - KCStar - Bedore: Incoming KU Jayhawks guard Bobby Pettiford has torn ankle ligaments. Here’s his status

As good news as can be expected given the situation.
