When Snacks left to join the Texas staff, Self said that he was not going to rush to fill the assistant coach opening, and that he would not be surprised if it went to mid summer before making a hire.
In the interim Jeremy Case has been an acting AC, and maybe he’ll get the slot. But if he was that high on Self's list, why not just hire him and step out with planning for next season? The logical answer is that Self has a target list of people that have expressed interest in the job and there are several that he ranks as better prospects for the vacancy. Self is on record that he is very pleased with the people who have expressed interest in the position.
That left some wondering if Danny might be coming back, but Danny has since joined his former teammate Turgeon as a Maryland assistant coach.

From what I’ve seen other speculation has focused on Self either waiting for the NBA season to end because he wants to hire Aaron Miles away from the GG Warriors, or waiting until Joe Dooley's Eastern Carolina buyout goes from $1 million to $400,000 after June 1st.
