Bill Self said he didn't have the shooting and length he needed to win, and he has addressed those areas with gusto since the end of the Jayhawks' season.

“With kindest regards to Dr. Forrest C. Allen, the father of basketball coaching, from the father of the game.”
1936 inscription on the portrait of Dr. Naismith, displayed above Phog Allen's office desk at KU.
Very helpful - thank you!
And in a nod to how wild and fluid this postseason has already been, you no sooner finished this then Och opted to test the NBA waters.
As Self says in this update by Tait, it’s the Wild West...

Don't worry about the mules, just load the wagon!!
So who might be the starting lineup? Obviously McCormack is a lock. I would also think that Jalen is a lock. Realistically if Ochai returns he would have to be considered as a lock. Beyond that there are a number of possibilities. Assuming Marcus comes back he would also be a lock but for this exercise I will assume he is not coming back. Conventional wisdom would say Christian as a junior would have the inside track. I love Christian even to the point of being possibly my favorite current Jayhawk. But as I have said all year, he seems to be a better 6th or 7th man then a starter. The point guard slot will be between Dajuan and Joseph Yesefu. I would bet Yesefu gets the nod so I put him as the 4th starter, I think the 5th starter is really an interesting pick. With Clemence and Martin we suddenly have two options for something we have not had, a true stretch 4, that looks good on the offensive side but can either pass muster on defense. Especially if Wilson does not significantly improve his defense and Marcus off to pursue his dreams. Braun could still be an option to shore up the defense. Adam’s is a complete unknown and Curry is another option. I will lean into Martin as the 5th starter and hopefully watch him drive teams crazy as he shoots 45% from three and adds good size and rebounding. Clemence would be the first big off the bench and Braun and Harris rotate in the back court. Pettiford and Adam’s are wildcards. If they come in a la Ochai his freshman season and wow, they could be significant contributors. Barring something to diminish the ranks we are super deep next season. Not everyone will get minutes, but with this depth, we should pick up the pace and intensity and feel comfortable going 9 or even 10 deep.
