Today Shay Wildeboor of JayhawkSlant provided an update to the KU MBB recruiting situation to the best of his knowledge as of Sunday April 4.
Paraphrasing his comments here --
1. He has been told that Latrell Jossell will be announcing his transfer early this week.
2. He has been told everyone else wants to come back, but it was not clarified if that included Marcus Garrett (who, like Mitch, would not count against the annual scholarship limit of 13), so he was trying to find out.
3. Regardless of what Marcus does, if Latrell opts out KU will have two rides left to fill for AY2021-22.
4. KU's top priority -- former Creighton commit
TyTy Washington Jr,
the 4* (Rivals #32; 247Sports #30, ESPN #34) 6-4/180 PG from Compass Prep in Phoenix, AZ. If only 1 ride, they want him. His announcement is expected soon now that the GEICO Nationals High School tournament is over.
5. HCBS talked with
Creighton Junior transfer Christian Bishop
and his father and extended an offer to Christian, who was VERY interested. If Latrell announces as expected, the 6-7/220 F from Lee's Summit, MO is Priority 2. He would have 2 years left to play with the COVID-19 year.
Based on Shay's writing, I would expect to learn of Christian Bishop's commitment very shortly after Latrell's announcement to transfer is made.
From other comments on Rivals, it appears that the backup plan for another PG in case Washington does not "come on down" is Drake Sophomore G
Joseph Yesufu (6-0/180)
from Bolingbrook, IL. Posters on Slant are saying if this is a Plan B it is the best Plan B they have ever seen, kid is a beast. Led Drake to their NCAAT win over Wichita State and carried them on his back until USC’s superior assets blew Drake away.
You will recall that KU had been interested in UMKC Senior transfer G Brandon McKissic. McKissic has opted to play his COVID-19 year for Florida.
Hope you and yours are doing well, and here's to another positive news filled week for us all.
Rock Chalk!
