I'm writing for your thoughts on several things related to the pinned threads on the hoops and football boards.
But before I proceed, a note... as a moderator I have a very limited number of additional things I can do with the board. Suffice it to say I do what I can and refer what I can't to Dave.
Onward...
My first thought is that the pinned threads take up a lot of space at the top of the forum categories, especially the Basketball category. However, if the information they provide is helpful and used – in no small part because it is pinned right there staring you in the face every time you open the board -- then I'll keep them there as long as I can.
My second thought is how many of you actually find the pinned threads of interest/use? Many of them contain info available elsewhere on the web, there's not a lot of – if any --original stuff there. But I like having them in one place, and annotated with other information we don't usually find on other sites without a lot of digging into multiple sources.
The practically permanent links that I seldom do anything with are:
Honorees and Criteria for Jersey to Hang in AFH (Link)
Davis Power Power Predictor Index (info and link to CorpusJayhawk's DPPI) (Link)
asteroid's initial AY2020 Big 12 projection (with statistics explained FYI...) (Link)
Then there is the current academic year Roster and Staff (Link) with it's pertinent scholarship and walk-on information, as well as links to things roster related that happen throughout the season.
For most of the season I only have the current AY Recruiting thread up, consolidating information from all the main sites (Rivals, 247Sports, ESPN) and others (KUSports, KCStar, etc.) into one place in what I hope is a fairly easy to follow format. The way the Recruiting threads are set up makes sense to me, but does it to you? (CY Link)
And of course there are the Bill Self W-L record tracker (which I do not intend to continue if/when the day comes that he passes Phog as the all-time winningest KU head coach) (Link) , the Top 5 All Time Winningest D1 Programs tracker (Link) , and the current AY Schedule & Results (Link) , each containing a link back to its predecessor for historical purposes.
I do all these things because I find them interesting and helpful as a resource, and hope you do as well.
So do you? Enough to justify the space they take at the top of the page each time you check in?
For example, do you read the Schedule and Results Origin Post and its thread updates for each game (with the links to various pages and articles of interest from KU Athletics, ESPN, KUSports.com and other programs websites)? (I know I missed a couple of game posts this season, my apologies.)
As noted, I do the pinned threads primarily as a KU quick resource and because they interest me, and I hope you find them of interest as well, and use them accordingly. But if they are too bothersome bunched up at the top of the first page as they are, I can try to come up with a way to keep the information there, but minimize the footprint at the top of the page.
Of course, with the ads that just take up so much space these days (the site is free to us and Dave has to pay for site ops!), perhaps it's best to leave well enough alone as you'll still have to page down a lot anyway.
Appreciate your thoughts, thanks!
Eric

Everything you mentioned about the pinned posts being annoying is true IMHO, but must be balanced by the convenience of archived information as you mention. My personal experience is that I know when I log on I have to scroll down past the ad for Ukrainian women who want to date me (I'm big in the East Block!!), the "Nail clippers for seniors" ad, and the like. So it's the price of admission. New posts are flagged so I can go right to them. It's not a big deal at all.
As for the pinned posts I check regularly, I ALWAYS watch the count down to passing kensucky.
I second Don's thanks to you for your great work.

LadyHawk wrote: I confess that I rarely look at the pinned threads at the top. However, they don't bother me at all. If it's not too burdensome to leave them, I say leave them there. Other folks use them and it's nice to have a consolidated reference area.
Thank you!!
You are welcome, LadyHawk!
I would point out that they include more than just reference information. For example, the game posts included in the KUMBB AY2020-21 SCHEDULE & RESULTS thread includes game day information and links to various other sites and their articles regarding the current game, usually from a KU perspective but also from other program perspectives when I can find them. Combined with asteroid's unparalleled pregame meta-analysis, and CorpusJayhawk's occasional pregame commentary, I hope it provides interesting reading and gameday reminders leading up to that day's game.
Thanks to you and all who replied for your responses!

Thoughts on Pinned Threads:
1. Schedule/ Results - have never looked. Once the schedule is announced I place in my calendar, results other places.
2. Top 5 - This is great, check it @monthly
3 & 5 Recruiting - have never looked, caring begins on signing
4. Self Wins - look @ twice a year
6. David Power - looked for the first time last week. great stuff, will reference it again.
7. AFH Jerseys- haven’t looked in years, the criteria seems to be fluid over the years
8. Roster & staff - have not looked, use other sources
9. Asteroid- review @monthly. I recall asking for this to be pinned, thank you.
Thanks again

Though for recruiting, if I click on a new message that you post, I may then browse b/c I'm there and KU recruiting is now on the brain.
But again, for me, it's all about the signal of the new message.
Thanks, as always, for all of your hard work. It's appreciated an valued more than you realize.
