Chicago St. just suspended their men's basketball for the rest of the season due to lack of interest (well maybe that is my interpretation). Chicago St. is ranked 327th of 328 teams to have played this season. They are 0-9. I though it might be interesting to see how many teams have yet to play. KU has now played 9 games, including 2 conference games. In addition to Chicago St., the entire Ivy league has canceled their seasons. I believe that Bethune-Cookman and MD-East Shore have also canceled their seasons. That is a total of 11 teams that I know of. There are 357 Div 1. teams. Interestingly, 8 of the 10 Patriot league teams chose to play conference only games beginning in January. The two teams that have schedule non-con games are Army and Navy. 2 of the 4 new D-1 teams have yet to play a game (Tarleton St, and UC San Diego). Bellarmine and Dixie State have each played 3 games. All teams in the power 6 conferences have played at least 5 games with the exception of DePaul (1), Wake Forest (2), Florida (4), South Carolina (3), UConn (4), Duke (4) and Virginia (4). The only team ranked in the top half of Div1 that has yet to play is New Mexico St (theoretically ranked 121).
Here is a breakdown of teams by No. of games.
Cancelled: 11
Played no games yet: 18
Played 1 game: 3
Played 2 games: 19
Played 3 games: 23
Played 4 games: 42
Played 5 games: 61
Played 6 games: 56
Played 7 games: 61
Played 8 games: 40
Played 9 games: 17
Played 10 games: 5
Played 11 games: 1
So I judge KU fans to be very fortunate that we have been able to see our guys play 9 games, more than 93% of other schools have played. It would have been nice to see a 60 point destruction of Billy Gillespie's Tarleton St. team but alas, best not to be too greedy.
