Just a reminder that when the official AP preseason Poll comes out with KU certainly included, that will give KU 221 straight AP Polls, tying them with the all-time record set by Kentucky, We will almost certainly break that record after week one of the season when KU appears on the 222nd straight poll. KU has played 415 straight games ranked in the AP Poll. The last time KU was not ranked was January 2009 We opened the 2009 season ranked 24th (after losing every starter off of a NC team plus a key backup in Sasha Kaun) but we were knocked out of the poll after losing 89-81 to unranked Syracuse. We eventually rose as high as No. 9 and eventually finishing 14th. No matter how you slice it, 221 straight AP polls is simply amazing.
In Self's 610 games as head coach at Kansas, he has been in the AP poll for 571 or 93.6% of the time. Roy Williams played 471 games ranked out of 519 or 90.6%. Both are amazing, but Self has surpassed Williams. Roy did average being ranked slightly higher than Bill, 6.35 to 6.73. Bill has played 57 games ranked No. 1 in the country compared to 60 by Roy. Bill has played 158 games against ranked teams (25.9% of games) while Roy played only 121 against ranked teams (23.3%) so Bill has tended to play a rougher schedule.
We have been blessed to have such great coaches at Kansas.
