G Marcus Garrett (S)
F Mitch Lightfoot* (S) (2021-02-26 returning for Super Senior season)
G Chris Teahan (W) (2021-02-26 returning for Super Senior season)
NB: Due to COVID-19, the NCAA has approved an additional year of eligibility and another year to use it if for all 2020-21 players. It is my understanding that such players will NOT count against the program's annual scholarship limit of 13, and programs may tap NCAA funds to pay for the extra scholarships.
Q: Will Marcus Garrett take advantage, as Mitch and Chris have?
A: No. Formally declared for NBA Draft 2021-04-21.

IMPORTANT DEADLINES
SUNDAY........ 2021-05-30, 11:59 PM ET: NBA deadline to declare for the 2021 NBA draft
WEDNESDAY 2021-07-07, 11:59 PM ET: NCAA deadline to withdraw from draft and retain eligibility assuming no agent is hired. Date is ten days after the final day of the annual NBA Draft Combine, scheduled for June 21-27, 2021. This date is NOT the same as the NBA's deadline to withdraw from the draft (5:00 PM ET 2021-07-19, 10 days before the NBA draft is held).
Per NCAA rules approved in August 2018, effective with the 2019 NBA Draft players can hire an agent and still return to school.
Note that the approved NCAA rule that would allow a player who stayed in the draft but went undrafted to return to school does not go into effect until the NBA and the NBPA make their final decision on such players not being NBA eligible again until the next school year is over (expected to be approved, but has not been yet).

I searched and saw that back on June 26 Self announced Elliott had entered the transfer portal. But Self also said that as far as he knew Elliott had not made up his mind to leave for sure at that point. I can’t find anything else ... yet.
You have anything else saying EE actually has decided to leave?

And a big THANKS! to Corpus for some errata checks!
The Rivals Ratings have been updated for the latest round, and I've added some new offers that have been tendered since the last update.
Here are the new additions to the list this time around,

G 81/**** Shane Nowell 6-4/180 Sammamish, WA/Eastside Cath

F --/*** Sydney Curry 6-8/265 Fort Wayne, IN/John A Logan CC
Apparently Curry has been in beast this year for Logan CC.
As of right now there is only 1 open scholarship with both Clemence and Adams claiming the first two of three for 2021.
As always, though, we can never be sure who else may decide to leave (for whatever reason) after this season (if there even is one).

Zach Clemence, KU's other early commitment, is set to sign with his HS classmates on Saturday.
The early window closes on November 18.
KU still has, at present, one more ride to fill -- unless someone opts to take advantage of the 2020 COVID19 extra year of eligibility. (I believe the basketball players are eligible, right? I've lost track.)
The Origin Post has been updated to reflect KJ signing, as well as clean up the OFFERS listing.

KUSports.com - Tait: Kansas basketball lands commitment from juco big man Sydney Curry
At John A. Logan C.C. in Carterville, Illinois, originally from Fort Wayne, Indiana.
In 31 games last season he averaged 13.5 points and 8.3 rebounds per game, shooting 73.9 percent from the field and 44.0 percent from the free-throw line.
Reportedly has a 40 inch vertical and "plays a lot like Azubuike". (Apart from the FG% and FT%, we'll have to reserve judgement on that.)
Curry's commitment fills the last currently open ride, so any others coming in will be indicative of future roster changes we just don't know about yet.

High schoolers Zach Clemence and KJ Adams signed with the Jayhawks during the early signing period.
On Thanksgiving Day KANSAS added the commitment of JUCO big man Sydney Curry to fill the currently known available scholarships.
Here's an edited version of Shay's write up (see the above link for the original article)
ZACH CLEMENCE Rivals #35
SIGNED
6'10" | 218 LBS | PF | 2021
SUNRISE CHRISTIAN ACADEMY, BEL AIRE, KS
HOMETOWN: SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS
The skinny:
“Zach is a 6-foot-10 youngster that can really shoot the ball," said Kansas head coach Bill Self. "We haven’t had anybody here like Zach that is truly a four that can maybe be the best shooter in a game... He’s having a great high school career at Sunrise Christian. He’s from San Antonio originally and is very well drilled. I anticipate him coming in and being able to play multiple positions on the perimeter and if we decide to go really small he would be a nightmare-type matchup for five men. He’s got a chance to be an impact player that we will be counting on for sure.”
K.J. ADAMS Rivals #85
SIGNED
6'7" | 220 LBS | PF | 2021
WESTLAKE HS, AUSTIN, TX
HOMETOWN: AUSTIN, TEXAS
The skinny:
Bill Self: "KJ is a jack of all trades. I think KJ is a big guard that can play inside. He’s definitely strong enough. He’s a physically gifted youngster that can defend the five too. KJ is a guy that can play with the ball in his hands. He can play without the ball. He can be an tremendous physical presence in the game and certainly he is well beyond his years in that regard. I look forward to coaching his versatility."
SYDNEY CURRY (no ranking, JUCO)
VERBAL COMMIT 11/26/2020
6'9" | 265 LBS | PF | 2021
JOHN A. LOGAN C.C., CARTERVILLE, IL
HOMETOWN: FORT WAYNE, INDIANA (Northrop HS)
The skinny:
"I was crying last night,” said Sydney Curry shortly after going public with his commitment. “Everybody kind of doubted me. I’m really overwhelmed. My decision to go to Kansas is a dream come true."
(NB: KU won't be commenting on Curry until he signs in April.)
From other sources...
Local Fort Wayne media describe him as a "ferocious" player (link) who averaged 13.5 pts and 8.3 rebounds per game last season at Logan CC.
There originally was some talk about his coming to KANSAS for the Spring semester, but I have not seen anything recently about this possibility. He would essentially be taking DeSousa's place a semester earlier than planned if he did.

**** Kyle Cuffe, Jr. 2022 Rivals #78, 247Sports #84; no ESPN rating (ESPN currently listing only the top 60 for 2022).
He is a 6'2/173 SG from Blair Academy in Blairstown, NJ who has cut his list to Kansas, Georgia, Kansas State, Pittsburgh, St. John’s, and Texas A&M (my second college, as some may recall).
His father Kyle Cuffe played for St John's from 2001-2004. (SportsReference.com stats)
Currently ranked #78 by Rivals Eric Bossi before he left (I don't know the details on that as of yet), the "new Bossi" Rob Cassidy has said "He'll likely slide up, though maybe not a ton simply because I have not had the chance to see him in person yet because of a global pandemic. I respect Bossi a ton and don't want to undo everything he's done without seeing the kid live. (Paysite link)
Shay Wildeboor, senior writer for JayhawkSlant on Rivals.com, expects that KANSAS will be his choice, and is wondering if Cuffe, Jr will reclassify to the 2021 class.
From Shay's writeup on JayhawkSlant:
Before narrowing his list of schools, Cuffe, Jr., in all, was considering scholarship offers from the likes of Kansas, Georgia, Kansas State, Pittsburgh, St. John’s, Texas A&M, Connecticut, Georgetown, Rutgers, Seton Hall, UCLA, and others. However, when the dust settled and Cuffe, Jr., was ready to narrow his list of schools, just six programs, Kansas, Georgia, Kansas State, Pittsburgh, St. John’s, and Texas A&M were left standing.
For me, I absolutely love his game --at least what I've seen. Cuffe, Jr., plays with a ton of energy and with a chip on his shoulder. He attacks the rim every chance he gets and can finish through contact. And when I say attacks the rim, I'm not just talking about layups/up-and-unders. This guy plays above the rim and loves to dunk whenever possible. Baseline dunks, dunks in transition, dunks driving down the lane, and everything else.
However, Cuffe, Jr., isn't just a dunker. He's got a nice outside shot and can hit the midrange jumper as well. I know a few of you have asked me about his ranking and, to be quite honest with you, I've got nothing to do with the rankings and I've got no idea why the decision was made to slot Cuffe, Jr., at No. 78 in the 2022 class rankings. Rivals.com, I believe, has him ranked higher than any other network at this time.
With that being said, I have a hard time believing that there are 78 better players in the 2022 class. I haven't seen a ton of video yet, so those that are responsible for updating the rankings might see things differently. Still, if Kansas does in fact land Kyle Cuffe, Jr., on Saturday, there is no doubt in my mind that Bill Self and the Jayhawks are getting a good one.
During a recent interview with Rivals.com, Cuffe, Jr., talked about four of the schools still remaining on his list.
On Kansas:
I love the history there. I love the history of Kansas and what Bill Self has to offer. I talk to Coach Self and Coach Norm Roberts on the daily. They let me know what I would bring to them and how much they value me. They also let me know how much I would value them.”
On Kansas State:
“Coach Bruce Weber is letting me know that I can be a top player on the roster right away. He says I can get there and play right now. I like hearing that a lot. Coach Shane [Southwell] is recruiting me a lot. I like him, but Coach Weber is also talking to me a lot.”
On St. John's:
“I like the coach. Coach Mike Anderson really showed me how well I fit that system and how much I can bring to the team. Then, my dad [Kyle Cuffe Sr.] also went there. So that’s part of it. I mean, it doesn’t matter to me in the way that I’m going to base my choice on it. It’s just one of the many things St. John's has to offer.”
On Georgia:
“Coach Tom Crean and Coach [John] Linehan have been telling me that I’d be a good fit. They say I play a little similar to Anthony Edwards in a way, so I’d fit perfectly in their system.”
===============================================
The young man looks like a winner, hope Bill & Company lands him!

KUSports.com: Cuff commits
Tait:
There’s been talk about Cuffe Jr. reclassifying into the 2021 class and joining the Jayhawks next season. But nothing concrete is known about his plans as of yet. Cuffe Jr. chose KU over finalists Kansas State, St. John’s, Georgia, Pitt and Texas A&M.

Of specific interest for Kansas fans is the potential to pick up a strong PG, assuming that at least one currently unknown scholarship player loss (beyond Marcus Garrett and Mitch Lightfoot) will occur when the season is over.
Remember that "every player currently on a college basketball roster is eligible to play in the 2021-22 season if they so choose. The NCAA granted every player an extra year of eligibility, regardless of how many games played this season."
Quoting still available possibilities at PG from the list (# is ESPN Transfer Portal ranking)...
3. Nimari Burnett , 6-6, 220 pounds, G, freshman, Texas Tech
A five-star recruit coming out of high school, Burnett struggled offensively early and saw his role diminish as the season progressed. He can play either guard spot and is also solid defensively. Averaged 5.3 points.
(Anyone know anything more about him?)
21. Terrance McBride , 6-2, 170 pounds, PG, senior, Cornell (GRADUATE)
Earned honorable mention All-Ivy honors after establishing himself as one of the better point guards in the league in 2019-20. Averaged 12.7 points and 3.2 assists for the Big Red.
(Same question.)

Marcus is still undecided, he may return as well.
The NCAA will not count any "super senior" players against the normal roster and scholarship limits.
Come back for one more, Marcus, and maybe Bill can find a true PG to let you take the 2 or even 3 slot so you can focus on defense. Wouldn't you like your last year to be in front of 16,300 screaming fans?
Yeah, you would...

A PG who can score, averaging like 30 in HS on a national schedule from what I am hearing,
Reality check: no sign he has been interested in KANSAS before now, or that KANSAS was interested in him before now.

Kansas... now has an open scholarship to fill for next year. Currently, Self and his staff have a number of options to consider.
Ty ty Washington, Jr., the 6-foot-4, 180-pound point guard from Compass prep in Phoenix, Ariz., was recently granted his release from Creighton. Last week, Self and his staff conducted a zoom visit with Washington, the No. 32 ranked player in the 2021 class.
According to his father, Washington plans to focus on finishing out his prep career in the GEICO Nationals this week, and will then shift his focus towards his recruitment.
Another high school prospect, Bobby Pettiford, the 6-foot-0, 170-pound point guard from South Granville High School in Creedmoor, N.C., has also conducted a zoom call with Kansas. Originally committed to Louisville, Pettiford, a three-star prospect, is currently considering a number of options, including Kansas.
Brandon McKissic, the 6-foot-3, 195-pound guard from Ferguson, Mo., recently made the decision to transfer out of UMKC. As a senior, McKissic scored 17.2 points, dished out 3.3 assists and grabbed 3.7 rebounds per game.
McKissic, one of the top perimeter defenders in America, made the All-Defense teams in the Western Athletic Conference during his sophomore and junior seasons, then as a senior he was named the Summit League's Defensive Player of the Year.
McKissic, who is down to Kansas, Missouri, Kansas State, Saint Louis, Oregon State, and Florida, also had a meeting via zoom with the staff last week.
Of the three prospects mentioned above, McKissic is the most likely to make his decision known. However, not date has been set at this time.
One final prospect, Tamar Bates, could once again be an option for Kansas. After signing with Texas, Bates, on Monday afternoon, announced that he's asked to be released from is Letter-of-Intent with the Longhorns.
Bates doesn't intend to conduct any interviews until the conclusion of the GEICO Nationals, but one would think that Self and his staff, once his release is granted, would reach out and see if Bates is still interested in Kansas.
Personally I like McKissic, even if its only for one year. A big CG who is a proven scorer and an excellent defender?
Hard not to like the young man.
A side note on Bates -- he chose Texas because he wanted to play for Shaka. I would think that would lead him to looking hard at following Shaka to Marquette. Or he may just be hedging his bets to see who Texas gets as its new head coach, and plans to return to the fold if he likes the pick. Can't fault the kid for wanting to have some control of his destiny now that Smart is out at tu. Either way, it's worth considering recruiting guru Eric Bossi's opinion of the situation -
“Tamar Bates isn't going to go to Kansas and I seriously doubt Kansas recruits him again. Barring a major shift from both parties, it just isn't happening.”
